I would have thought moving there when she was 8 or whatever she would have picked up the accent well. But my mom says her family is probably one of those who despite moving there don't assimilate with americans and hence the accent.

Whether or not Mauli was born in the US, she doesn't have the fobby American English accent.

When you're speaking some English amidst the Hindi/Urdu, duh, a little Desi accent jumps in through the transition. Sometimes, I even make my English sound fobby in order to be comprehended easily and quickly.

(Note 1: I was born and raised in the US

Firstly, the unlimited sms feature does not waive the $0.99 charge that applies to every vote. Second, how many votes can family and friends cast when the telecast is international with millions counted in its viewership. Finally, how could you know her family so close and personal and yet bad mouth her in such a manner! What is the real deal here?

I again ask all to stay positive, definetely back your own favorites. Let us not however claim to be "Soorma Bhopalis" with deep technical knowledge of music that overrides the listening ears of countless others. Mauli appeals to us and that is that.

Just another quick note before I get back to the weekly routine.
There is another program that is worth watching and that is a Comedy show on either Zee or Sony. Suggest getting Indian Idol, Saregamapa and that Comedy (2 people acts)show on your DVR and view whenever you can.
