No one is really that versatile.
You can't tell Udit Narayan to go sing a Allah Ke bande and expect him to rock it.

Yes I read it. Good one.
I agreed with alot of yours...
Its hard to just say one positive thing for 8/9 contestants
We all the know the other one 😉
I am not going to address versatility at all in my remarks. They will remain purely based on technicalities of singing.

So 1 negative and one positive thing about each contestant:
SUMEDHA.
Positive: Has a wonderful resonance in her voice. If you press down the damper pedal and play the piano, you will understand that Sumedha's voice has the same sort of effect. The beauty of it is that she does not need studio-editing equipment to produce such a resonance, which is why mentors keep harping about how great she would sound in recording.
Negative: She tends to go nasal at times, so she needs to be careful about that. Her notes also need careful monitoring so that she doesn't go off-sur.
MAULI.
Positive: When this girl nails a song, she creates a different sort of magic. She knows enough tricks to make the song sound good.
Negative: She has a very limited range, which is why her voice often goes into falsetto while singing high notes or simply sounds like she's shreiking them.
HARPREET.
Positive: Great range and technical singing.
Negative: He really needs to start connecting with the songs that he sings to inject appropriate feel into the song. The magic of "Kawa Kawa" needs to be recreated!
RAJA.
Positive: When it comes to high range singing, no one can beat this guy. He also has strong control over his vocals and adds little ornaments here and there with ease.
Negative: He's straining himself too much with these songs, which is why he sounds tired at times. Needs to sing some medium range songs as well so that he can preserve his voice.
JUNAID.
Positive: Unique voice, which works wonders on the high range and he's also good with alaaps.
Negative: Junaid almost always has bad beginnings when he starts off at the lower note. It feels that his voice never really opens up till he reaches the highest note in the piece.
ANEEK.
Positive: Nice, clean voice. He sings difficult songs with an unusual ease.
Negative: He needs to work on his English diction.
MUSSARAT.
Positive: When it comes to singing, the more complex the song is technically, the better Mussarrat does.
Negative: He is unable to perform simpler songs with ease. Strange isnt it? But, its true that whenever he has to sing songs with straight notes, a vibrato creeps into his voice.
AMANAT.
Positive: Another great technical singer. He has the voice of a Ghazal singer - delicate with a hint of sadness.
Negative: Needs to put in more feel and energy into his songs and make them memorable.
POONAM:
Positive: Very very strong vocals. Also she has a different and refreshing voice.
Negative: She has to really learn how to do "legato singing" or smooth singing. Her notes tend to become detatched, which is great when you have songs like Vande Mataram from Anandmath, but very bad when you have a romantic song which requires more flow and sweetness.
Thanks Tanaz😳 for sharing the techicalities
SUMEDHA.
Negative: She tends to go nasal at times, so she needs to be careful about that. Her notes also need careful monitoring so that she doesn't go off-sur.
Oh I didnt know this, Sumedha needs to rectify this she is a great singer.
MAULI.
Negative: She has a very limited range, which is why her voice often goes into falsetto while singing high notes or simply sounds like she's shreiking them.
Is this the same thing which Asha-tai once explained during the show? Ok thats why the shrieking sound.
MUSSARAT.
Negative: He is unable to perform simpler songs with ease. Strange isnt it? But, its true that whenever he has to sing songs with straight notes, a vibrato creeps into his voice.
Please share what does vibrato mean?
Poonam
Negative: She has to really learn how to do "legato singing" or smooth singing. Her notes tend to become detatched, which is great when you have songs like Vande Mataram from Anandmath, but very bad when you have a romantic song which requires more flow and sweetness.
Just for my understanding, the smooth numbers mean the song numbers sung by Lata-di.
Thanks again for sharing these points.

SUMEDHA.
Positive: She has a very sweet, melodious and versatile voice.
Negative: She seems stuck up (I think). She knows she's pretty and it kind of annoys me because she shows it.
MAULI. (Finging a positive in her was very hard for me but I did it)
Positive: She has great energy and it channels to her songs. (The greatest thing I could come up with)
Negative: She isn't versatile. Always Item Item. And I know she tried other songs but she didn't rock those.
HARPREET.
Positive: His voice is different and its very nice.
Negative: He seems low on energy. ( I couldn't find a negative so that's the best I could)
RAJA.
Positive: He just simply rocks in all categories ( not as in different singing genres).
Negative: He needs to break out of Sukhwinder Singh and Kailash Khers. As Vishal said.
JUNAID.
Positive: His voice is very different and sweet.
Negative: His voice is very strained I think.
ANEEK.
Positive: His voice is great! I love listening to it.
Negative: His voice sounds alot like Sonu's and Emon's. There isn't much originality.
MUSSARAT.
Positive: He rocks. Ironic ay?
Negative: Not versatile. Versatile to a limit.
AMANAT.
Positive: His voice is very clean and nice.
Negative: LAcks the feel and energy.
POONAM:
Positive: She really is pocket size powerhouse.
Negative: She needs to put herself more out. She's very quiet and kind of blank.
GIve your opinions on each contestants and if its possible help me with a negative for Mussarat.
What do you guys think?
Dear i don't believe with emon thing. he is not a proved singer to copie, he is just part of one reality show like aneek. so say that emon copies sonu but some times i fell the way aneek sings some song, dosent sound like sonu songs...

So one negative and one positive thing about each contestant:
SUMEDHA.
Positive: She has a lovely voice and her diction is clear. The MD's have often complimented her voice quality.
Negative: She connects less with the audience which is imp to garner votes.
MAULI. (Finging a positive in her was very hard for me but I did it) 😆
Positive: I think she can sing folk songs well or e.g. ILa Arun/Usha Uthup kind of songs well
Negative: Her voice lacks the sweetness and it sounds as if she is screaming while singing like in the recent performances.
HARPREET.
Positive: Sings qawwali and folk songs very well.
Negative: He does sound going of sur at times and his voice wont suit romantic numbers
RAJA.
Positive: His song selection is the best, he sings them brilliantly best and connects with the public👏 He sings with passion.
Negative: I too agree with Vishal's remark that he needs to break out of Sukhwinder Singh and Kailash Kher mould.
JUNAID.
Positive: He has a rockstar appeal and sings fast numbers well.
Negative:He too goes off sur in slower numbers
ANEEK.
Positive: He sings different songs very well and consistent performer...deserving winner
Negative: Does sound similar to Sonu and is at an disadv with his entry in the contest
Mussarat
Positive: He does sing the sufi songs brilliantly
Negative: soft and sweet romantic nos wont suit his voice.
AMANAT.
Positive: His voice is suitable for romantic nos
Negative: In fast paced nos he looses energy.
POONAM:
Positive: Has a good voice and gives great performances, good alaap
Negative: I think she loses out on high pitch songs

I'm not saying that he copies them. Their voices just sound similar. I don't think its bad though.
I personally think Aneek is great.
I mean the judges said he sounded like Sonu

You're most welcome Lavanya
MAULI.
Negative: She has a very limited range, which is why her voice often goes into falsetto while singing high notes or simply sounds like she's shreiking them.
Is this the same thing which Asha-tai once explained during the show? Ok thats why the shrieking sound.
I dont remember if Asha pointed this out for Mauli in particular. But, yes, that's why she sounds shreiky...her voice can't reach the higher notes. Even after it is heavily tuned, it sounds false (eg. the beginning Qawwali which everyone lip-synched)
MUSSARAT.
Negative: He is unable to perform simpler songs with ease. Strange isnt it? But, its true that whenever he has to sing songs with straight notes, a vibrato creeps into his voice.
Please share what does vibrato mean?
Vibrato in the most simplest terms means a "vibration" or "tremor" in the voice. You need to have real control to use it only when necessary (to bring more emotion to the song).
Poonam
Negative: She has to really learn how to do "legato singing" or smooth singing. Her notes tend to become detatched, which is great when you have songs like Vande Mataram from Anandmath, but very bad when you have a romantic song which requires more flow and sweetness.

Yes, many of Lata's songs are very smooth and flow quite beautifully. You can barely hear her breathe between notes.
Poonam knows she has trouble holding notes, which is why she cuts them off abruptly at times. Otherwise, she probably goes into vibrato like Mussarrat.
Toh phir aao is sung by Mustaf Zahid! but who sang it in saregamapa?
