Connection or whatever u might want to call..i have always maintained that the era when asha and lata both were struggling .like others . They got the good MDS and were given the wide range of songs which others couldnt get..not nesserily becasue they were not good..We will never know what could have been the case ..do we?Thats why the question is " what if Lata had the rival..be it noorjahan or anyone else for that matter...We can only say about what has happned ..

Histrically speaking many unfair means were used to curb entry of new talent for many years . So it was a deadly combination of a gifted voice and power .

Well said.

It was a great combination of a gifted voice and the ability to survive competition.

The ethics of surviving competition is another issue altogether..

For me,Lata mangeshkar is the voice of the millennium.Every song of her is an inspiration for any singer.Nobody, nobody comes even close to her as far as female voice is concerned.Yesteryear music directors were creators and they always worked for their satisfaction. As we all know that they were perfectionist. So,when they had voice like lata ji available, then it was obvious that they went for lata ji.I really dont mind that lata ji had no rival.Actually it was impossible for any singer to sing the songs which lata ji had sang,We sometime feels sorry for Suman kalanpur that she didn't got chance to sing more but when you hear her duet "Ajahoo na aae baalama, sawan beeto jae"with rafi saab,You can feel that she was forcing herself because song was in the high note.Yes,in the 80's,we badly needed a voice other then lata ji. Idont know why suman kalyanpur didn't sing in that period. All we have to do is to enjoy the great work done by our lata di and not to bother why she didn't had any competitor or rival.😊

Lot of factors play a role - connections (as Maya said), family life, pricing (charging Rs. 50 vs. 500), getting songs which were perfect for her voice.

I believe luck played a great role for Lata as well. She got the right kind of songs to suit her voice and performed them well. Lucky because market demand for such songs was high too at that time.

That being said, I think Lata is overrated. She is a great technical singer, no doubt, but she's not an incarnation of Saraswati Ma or the perfect female voice as she is called by many.

*sees that fans are getting 😡 and runs for cover*

That day when i was searching for best songs of the singers, I could find only very few as most of the songs were sung by Lata and Asha.. Was there no try to bring in new singers or they didnt want to is again an issue.. When I was taking this issue in my family - all I heard was it was public demand.. Public liked their voice, others did not click even if they were given a chance.. But im still confused on why there were no other singers other than Lata and Asha when they entered the industry 😕

completely agree with u😛...........Lata mangeshkar kisi aur singers ka raasta rok kar to nahi baithi thi,ab kuch singers rate ziada maangte the plus apni family ko ziada importance dete the to isme lataji ka kya kasur??/?..........aur connection ki baat to down to earth, humble n approchable, trained, music ko devoted n jinka rate bhi kam ho aise hi singers ko music directors prefer karenge na😛.......jab kam daamo me acchi trained awaaz mil rahi ho to MD's dusri awaazo ko kya prefer karne lage...aur saath kaam karte karte ek comfort level ban jaata hai jo ki Lataji ka max.music directors ke saath huwa tha to aise music ko devoted log saath me kaam karte hai to results best hi milte hai n tabhi us waqt ka music n Lataji ki singing lagta hai ek-dusre ke liye hi bane huwe the..................lataji ke gaaye songs mai kisi aur singer ki awaaz me expect hi nahi kar sakti chaahe wo singer kitna hi versatile kyo na ho........i like geeta dutt, asha bhonsle, shamshaad begam, mubarak but Lataji ki jagah koi nahi le sakta,...she is the best female singer😛😳............n i think ke lataji jaise living legend ki jinti taarif ki jaaye utni kam hai..............(with due respect to noorjahannji but i never liked noorjehan's voice, mujhe bohat bhaari lagti thi n natural nahi sound karti thi unki voice).....

i want to share one more thing, some of u might be knowing this but still i want to share this......sunil gawaskar 1980's me pakistan ke tour pe the to ek dinner party me pakistan me noorjehanji bhi aayi thi to kisine noorjahnaji ko sunil gawaskar se introduce karaya ke yeh India ke captain hai to tab noorjahanji ne kaha ke 'humne to yeh naam kabhi nahi suna, hum to serif Imraam khaan ko jaante hai'...........n jab sunil gawaskar ko usi person ne noorjehan se introduce karate huwe kaha ke aap to inko janate hi honge, yeh Mallika-e-tarranum noorjehan hai to tab sunil gawaskar ne jawab diya,'hum to serif Lata Mangeshkar ko jaante hai'😛.......maine just is incident ke baare me padha hai.........................no offence to anyone..................my appologies if it hurts anybody😛
