Sahana you are the mentor you would know better. As an audience I can say I would prefer to hear a variation of melody...any sad song with plenty of pathos, or an item number or something different.even in golden times there are songs like mera naam chin chin choo...now thats is sweet and yet it sounds different right?
Raju of your gharana has been selecting songs of different types, and it sounds nice to see his versatile range.
Sarita also sings fabulously , but we all know that she is good in these type of songs, so nothing new offered here. In round slike this when there is a broader scope, there are many options available too....
as an audience its my opinion. You may agree or you may not. Finally what matters is not what I think , but what the judges think. Its their decision to call the shots..😆 So debating with me here wont help much. Its an opinion from public, take it or leave it...debate karke koi faida nahi....
You are not getting my point. I am not at all insisting that Sarita is the best singer around. She is not. But, in my opinion, even with her limitations she has attempted more variety of songs than many others with better voices. Of course, don't I know that judges are going to make the final decision? But, it's my habit to try and make sense of what people say, so what if they are not decision-makers. There has to be a foundation of sense below everything.
Now if you had said, Sarita should attempt to sing classical, you would have made sense to me, because that's the only type she has not attempted.
Otherwise, if I list out her songs, they are all very different. It's a different matter whether she did full justice to the songs :
1)Jahan mein aisa kaun hain - melody/soft/soothing
2)Jeeya dhadak dhadak - robust, deep throated folk
3)Meethi meethi baaton - Song with singing and talking
4)Gorey gorey o baanke chhore - Song in two different voices
5)Yeh ladka, haai allah - racy (maybe same genre as mera naam chin chin choo)
6)Doni saagali - soft melody
7)Le chala yeh dil jidhar - slow number
8)Main to bhool chali babul ka des - garba style folk
Obviously, since there are no beats allowed, melody will be more prominent.
OK, I think I said what I wanted to say. I don't regard discussions like these to be detrimental to the spirit of the contest. They should be encouraged, instead of being dismissed with "take it or leave it". We all need to learn to analyse.
