In sad and emotional songs, my favourites would always be Rafi and Talat. 😊

Mine too. But if I have to select 10 songs of only KK, most of that would be sad.

Yes that could be true but since your statement was "... naushad didnt look beyond rafi", followed by "and SD burman-kishore.. " I thought you meant SD Burman never looked beyond Kishore.

Ditto - I just love Rafi in the sad genre, but if I had to pick up 10 best of Kishore'da, it would have more of his sad numbers for me too 😳

May be - these kind of songs just appeal to me a lot more

Thanks Sonya for the great article - just keep them coming 😊

I can't associate Kishore with sadness! 😃 I always want to remember him as the guy doing all those antics and singing in Chalti ka naam gaadi and Half Ticket.

I think Kishore used to shake his voice a little for the sad songs, which kind of made it forced. This is the jarring bit of KK's voice that Sanu picked up and further messed up.

However, I totally love Kishore's upbeat songs AND his slow, romantic ones (Ruk jana nahin tu kahin; Raat kali; Yeh shaam mastaani, Tum bhi chalo hum bhi chalen, etc). He gave his best in them.

It's a Sanskrit word meaning patience/endurance. 😃

I too would agree with u all that Kishore in other songs was always better. But how to forget the songs like "Teri duniya se hoke majboor chala", :Dil aisa kisi ne mera toda", "Hum bewafa hargiz na thhe"... more must be there.

And what to say about some of the songs of Safar especially the sad ones. 😛

Undoubtedly Kishore Kumar sounded fantastic in Chalti ka naam gaadi or Piya Piya Piya or Half Ticket ... but the man who could infuse so much energy in his song with his playful style of singing could make you cry with his "Koi hota jisko apna, hum apna keh lete yaaron.."... the complete pathos in his voice in "Badi sooni sooni hai.. zindagi yeh zindagi"... and the ones Barnali has mentioned in her post... the sad, yet not depressing "Kuch toh log kahenge..." the hopeful "Aa chalke tujhe main leke chaloon"... he gave so much of himself in every song... OMG, I might just start crying now
