Hey fellas,
Been reading this section of the forum for a while but never really thought of posting my 2 cents.
Inspirations and plagiarism existed right since the evolution of music or any other form of art. Though there is a subtle difference between the both. Being inspired by a certain composition and reproducing it with one's own style is actually different to making an exact "photostat" copy of the original piece. Bappi and sometimes Anu Malik fall into the later category. We would have called them "cover versions" if they had acknowledged the original composer or the artist. Now that they have failed to do it, we call them plagiarists or "copycats". ON the other hand we have someone of the sorts of RD Burman or Shankar Jaikishen or Salil Chowdhury, (and many others) who had again and again defended the concept of "Inspiration". What they have done most of the times is to actually manufacture a composition in their own "typical" format and present it (quite a few of them are considered to be classics today..eg, "Chura Liya").
Coming back to "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005", I personally like this show (thanks to the few exceptionally good singers such as Nihira Joshi, Hemachandra, Abhijit and Twinkle). But, what goes on between those mentors seems to be quite fabricated. And to think of it, time and again they seem to contradict themselves. Be it, on the Abhijit-Aishwarya controversy or be it on the debate of "Singing in their own style or actually producing exact or "nearly similar" version of the original song on the stage".
But, above all, the show is very entertaining and a delight to watch those singers perform on the stage before the likes of Pandit Jasraj, Jagjit Singh, OP Nayyar, KK.. etc..
And also, enjoy reading Pmahesh's updates.
PS: I thought Vineet Singh's take on "Kya Hua Tera Vaada" was brilliant.
