Thanks for the update Anu. Shraddha, Abhro and Sanchita seemed to have sung the best today. Sad that Shraddha is out. She gave some wonderful performances like Solah Baras and Aye Watan Tere Liye.

Of course, I shouldn't post without reading everyone else but I have to go so quickly, so apologies for repetition:

1. Shraddha's song: Koi yeh kaise bataye ke voh tanha kyon hai, sung by Jagjit Singh, for Raj Kiran, in Arth in the party scene. I believe the nazm is by Kaifi Azmi but I could be wrong. It is a very beautiful song and she sang it well.

2. Personal comments are demoralizing. Even if weight is part of her problem, he could tell her mother that later privately. Being overweight does not bother lots of singers--SPB who sang a breathless song before Shankar Mahadevan, who is hardly reed-slim himself.

3. Who chose Sameer and Pawni's scale? I thought both sang a little lower than usual and in Sameer's case, it is a beautiful song at one level but not a song to showcase talent. JS' Kal chaudhvin ki raat thi, or Dhoop mein niklo may have served better or even Dil hi to hai.

Anu, you missed Abhijeet's priceless comment on the 'Abhrokantization' of 'Sarakti jaaye'. That is an accomplishment for a child--to become a verb! He said he could not say it was bad, he would say it was good.

Thanks again for the updates which I, like many others, read even after watching the program.

Thank you! I was wondering which song Shraddha sang.

I also felt the comment on Shraddha's weight was uncalled for. I don't know if there's some significant correlation btw weight, singing and breath control. If there is, then there are some important expectations, notably Shankar Madhavan, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Adnan Sami. There was a contestant, Mandisa, in American Idol last season who was overweight. She has a beautiful, compelling voice and was considered by some the best on the show. Simon made fun of her size/weight a number of times.

I haven't seen the ghazal episode yet but I still feel Jagjit Singh's comment was too personal. A comment like that can really affect a person's self-confidence.

This is not the first allusion to Shraddha's weight either. It is cruel to saddle a child with that--thin people are a dime a dozen in malnourished India, how many have her gift?

i disagree

a singer should be able to sing all kinds of songs
lata asha even shreya sang their first songs at the age of 13 itself

though it is weird to hear a kid sing these songs
but as a singer u shud be comfortable with all kinds of songs

Good point! There was already a thread in which several of us expressed discomfort. Hopefully they will pick less explicit songs.
