Completly agree with you Shady.. now looking forward to Mukesh's episode..

Prompted by Shady's comments on IF's, I tried to think over what would have happened had SD Saab given the soulful "Din Dhal Jaaye, raat na jaaye" to Kishore Da

I am sure he would have done justice, but there is something in that song, there is something in those lyrics which possibly only Rafi Saab could do justice.

Raju Bharthan wrote that "Kishore could mentally act the song". Did Rafi Saab not do it too.

My all time favourite song, dripped with romance, "Abhi naa jaao chodkar, ki dil abhi bhara nahi" is mesmerising with the lyrics and the voice behind it. The plea in the words, the emotions in the voice, the song wont be what it is, had it been devoid of these.

Obviously Burman Da had a way of judging who will do justice to which song.

The Yahoo cry of Junglee, or the naughty Aiye ya ya.. suku suku... ", the words and the emotions come out on screen, not just with the acting of the on screen hero, but the emotion in the voice of the play back singer as well.

Imagine a Badi sooni sooni hai ....... in the voice of Rafi saab. I am sure he will do well, but the face of a brooding Amitabh Bachan and the voice of Rafi Saab probably was never meant to be.

I just wish the writer, while giving due to the great Rafi saab, whom we all love and adore, and know is irreplaceable, remembered that the others mentioned in the article were no less great and equally as good.

I just cant seem to get this article out of my mind 😭

Very well said Priya... Some songs are just meant for certain people....

I will take the example of 3 songs, very similar in nature and sung by 3 different people...

'Main Zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya' - Md. Rafi
'Hai apna dil to aawara' - Hemant Kumar
'Main hoon jhum jhum jhum jhum jhumroo' - Kishore Kumar

Very similar genre of songs, but possibly cant be sung by any other singer... and so if we categorize that KK sings masti bhare songs better than others - it will be a very generic statement... Similarly, I cant think of Rafi saab singing Jhumroo... Hemant'da with all the pathos in his voice carried off 'Hai apna dil' so so well....

Each of the above singers were legends and they made those songs immortal the way they sang it.... The scope of music is so vast and wide, that it would only get enriched if we had more singers in the calibre of Rafi Saab or Kishore'da... But alas, legends are born only once in 1000 years! As a music lover, its shocking for me to see someone complaining about it!
