I think it depends on your guru/vocal coach and their guidance. If the guru is good, a talented singer will not suffer even after his voice breaks.

I don't know about guidance. When Sharib asked a question about voice breaking to Ust Ghulam Mustafa in SRGMP, the Ustad simply told him that he should just keep doing his riyaaz. I think a boy would need to start from Saregamapa all over again.

Yes, its sad that they suffer a disadvantage... Poor guys.. Have to work all over again Chalo, is ek case mein toh hum advantageous rahein un logon se... 😊

it was true in his case but he wasnt receiving formal training... i'm sure with good training this problem can be overcome

I think some of it may also be that boys get discouraged because for the period that their voice is breaking, they cannot control or modulate it as well as they did before. That might persuade some of them that they can never sing again, whereas if they stayed with riyaz, they might be able to get past puberty and sing.

ashok kumar once said that kishore had a voice like a"phati bansuri"...then one day he hurt his toe real bad..he cried and cried for days..then miraculously he started singing beautifully..do think it is possible

kamalahasan did something likethat yelled and yelled..but injured his larynx...
