I came to the forum and noticed quite a few discussions on regional voting. I will side-step the sensitive regional and skin-color issues and move on to the issue of deserving winners.

A lot of people feel Hemachandra, Nihira, and Karunya were deserving winners. Well, not necessarily.

Yes, they are excellent singers, but simply being a good singer does not necessarily mean you are a deserving winner. A winner is defined as someone who wins - period.

You need to win the people's hearts, you need to win their votes, you need to inspire them to believe in you, move them to spend their money for you.

George Washington won the first ever Presidential elections held in the USA - was he a deserving president? No. He had no political acumen. He was a farmer who owned land and a few slaves, and he was a good army General. But he was not a person fit to head the executive branch of ths United States. Yet, no one doubts that he was a deserving winner. Why? Because he brought cheer to the people's hearts. He was the most instrumental in bringing them their freedom. And they repaid their faith in him with their support in giving him the highest job in the country.

Debojit did something along the same lines - he brought cheer to the lives of people who have litte in life to look forward to. He inspired poor people to save up their hard earned money and vote for him relentlessly. He touched a lot of hearts, and he was the reason for the happiness of a lot of people.

Most importantly, he served as a ray of hope for the people of Assam, who had been torn between whether to consider themselves a part of an ungrateful India (which gave it step-brotherly treatment), or to demand a separate state where they would have more rights and respect as a people. Seeing one of their own being given an opportinity to succeed in the mainstream Indian culture, they felt the future looked bright. If one of their own could be accepted by India, then it would make it a lot easier for the rest of them. They wanted to let people know that Assam was indeed a significant part of India. They wanted Assam's voice to be known as India's voice.

When Assam's 21st century history is written, Debojit's name would be very prominent in there. And that is why he is a deserving winner. He may not have been the best singer in the competition, but he was clearly the Voice of India.

well said Shady, a winner is not necessarily the most talented one around but someone who can create a place for himself/herself in the hearts of the people

Hmm..Shady,That was emotional 😛

Debojit won..gud,You making him sound like a National hero which I dont think he is.
The fact is that,Debojit won becuase of Assam. He did benefit from regional voting,One can't deny that.

For me,Hemachandra will always be a true winner becuase he reached the top with virtually no support from Down South, where he hails from.
😊 just my POV 😊

Very well written Shady bhai 👏 , but I could not agree in some points. The assamese people have made him the voice of India, partly because he is from assam and he is a good singer. But everything was fuelled by the comments of Aadeshji, the lady and HRji, that Assamese voice cannot be the voice of India, people thought these learned personalities have expressed the views of the mainland Indian people towards Assam and Assamese people. The step-brotherly views of Delhi since independence are expressed from their words also. That was the reason, they vote relentlessly to make Debojit winner. But Assamese people are very proud of their rich cultural heritage, they will support Debojit until he makes his mark in the industry. But getting a name in the assam history, I think it is a bit too much. Debojit has really bound the people from both the valleys in Assam, but everything will depend on how much he can keep up the hopes of the people, how much Debojit can keep the social responsibilities. It is a long term process, this is just the beginning of the career for Debojit, long way to go. Then only something can be said.

Excellent post Shady 👏

The biggest strength of Debojit is that he was and is so humble... Humility is a quality that will help identify the weaknesses of a person and turn them to strengths, and not let success bowl you over...

Go Debojit 👍🏼

QUITE WELL WRITTEN ACTUALLY!!!!
but for me the true winner would be someone who carves a good niche for himself even after the competition has ended
the true winner would be someone who is actually a winner in the hindi film industry
so according to me the results regarding who the true winner is,are still awaiting 😛
but by winning c2005 debojit definitely has slightly a better chance than others
now lets see where his talent takes him 😃
