As for why they acted together in Silsila, I think you answered it yourself. Amitabh's career was going downhill, and they needed something to resurrect it - what better than a real-life reel-life story. 😛

Amitabh is no different from other actors like Dharmender, Amir, Saif or Raj Babbar. It was Rekha who pulled herself back from that relationship at the time of Amitabh accident. Wives of these people have always sufferred and Jaya had handled it like a true bhartiya naari. Amitabh is very good actor but he is not a good person as he had extra marital relationship.
