Rightly said Jaya,

People have to wake up and realise they are losing their fare share of money in the name of craze.Until then nothing can happen.Koi agar dawaza kholke poster chipka de.."mera ghar khula hain..chori mat karna"..to chor woh poster padke khaali haath vapis chala jayga kya??

Well said Shady! You cannot force to stop SMS voting. Ultimately its upto the viewers to take the judgemental call. Viewer communication had always been expensive in India. In the pre-sms days, there used to be the competition post-cards which were anyday much more expensive than the normal post-cards. So, its not a new trend in India. So, if people have the money and want to vote, a court cannot stop them.

but i dont understand one thing here...if they can spend 600crores on sms in a day why were they so reluctant when it came to contributing for the Tsunami victims..i was associated with an NGO at that time and had to face tough time convincing these rich guys and also had to convince them by bringing in tax-saving factors and others. Its good to be a part of someone's success but ultimtely who cares if some Debojit Saha of Silchar gets a flat in Mumbai or Sandeep Acharyaa gets a 1 crore contract.Thats a perfect example where the poor becomes poorer and the rich becomes more affluent.I wonder if Gajji gets a Mercedes for all this chutney and God knows who gets what...

Thats is the sad part Deep. The media hype and publicity gets the people carried away.. And the people who are voting are common middle-class people.. The brains behind the program try to stir the EQ of the common man, and reap the benefits! Its not just the reality shows, its what whole showbiz is all about.. The media is to be blamed so much for this.. when an incident like tsunami hits, the channels seem to be more interested reporting the latest number game as to how many lives were lost etc rather than using the potential to connect to the common man who can help. Isn't that sad?

And as Adi said - Its all about your self conscience.. And that my friend, is getting lost in the dark the fastest!

you are absolutely right Jaya..Infact the media has successfully played with the emotions of the common man..and it has played so well that we have started believing that helping some mediocre singers get a monetary contract comes above helping the helpless.I just can't fathom that part of it where we relate so well who comes with dazzling clothes and weired colored hairdo but turn deaf and blind to someone struggling to earn his/her daily bread.

Let me also point out one more thing. Its good that the contestants visit the old age homes and even visit the slums where they see the reality and make promises. Now thats again a smart strategy to seek attention and gain public sympathy. What this man in the thread calls a gambling is not gambling on the face but nothing more than a 'money spinning casino' where morality takes a complete backseat and glitz/glam takes over.Wow what a wonderful gain from democracy.

Zee & Sony and phone company are just pocketing so much profit and then the winners like Sarvar, Amey etc get nothing from these shows..they try, work hard & then are lost. ALl the profit goes to chanel and the participants after sometime are lost. We are still waiting for the movie Race 😊

on the contrary the voting for American Idol has a 800 toll-free number where people can vote as many times..so no pressure on the audience..

My contention is that all these programmes like SRGMP, Indian Idol etc should carry the warning at the bottom of the screen that SMSs sent to them will be charged at Rs 6 or whatever so that ignoramuses don't squander their hard-earned money unknowingly. I heard the story about a person who sent thousands of SMSs unknowingly and landed in a mess. When the contestants say "aap hamey jitne baar chaahe vote kar sakte hain", the viewers should also be told the extra charges they have to bear.
