Naushadsaheb neh zindagi mein aapni musiki seh yeh duniya hum sub keh liye jannat bana di thi. Khuda kare aub maut mein unhe wakehi mein jannat hasil hoh. Ameen! 💔

"Woh toh caale gaye aih dil,
yaad se unki pyar kar.
Jine mein kya mazah raaha,
Maut ka intezaar kar."

I have many memories of this great composer. The one that come to mind immediately is the program that I saw in late 70s on Mumbai doordarshan where Rafi saab sang the best of Naushad's songs live. Naushad-ji was there in the program with Rafi giving his commentary. I vividly remember most of the songs that Rafi sung in his much more matured voice then. Some of the Naushad-Rafi gems that Rafi saab sang were ---

Suhani raat the dhal gayi -- dulari

O door ke musafir humko bhi saath dede -- udan khatola

Madhuban mein radhika - kohinoor

O duniya ke rakhwale -- Baiju Bawara.

Rafi saab sung his heart out in the Baiju Bawara song.. I still have his ... ab to nir bahale, ab to nir bahale..........oooo, ab to nir bahale.... cresendo humming in my ear. I tell you that song in Rafi's the then voice was many many time better that the original. I used to hear the recording of that program, which my dad had done, for many years. Unfortunately we lost it later.

Not sure, if someone has pointed this out before. I haven't read all the posts in this thread.

The article lists Naushad-ji as the MD of Pakeeza. This is not fully correct. Pakeeza's music was composed by Gulam Mohmmad. He did all the leading songs like Mausam hai ashkana, chalate chalate, thade rahiyo, chalo dildaar chalo. Naushad-ji took over when Gulam-ji passed away. He did one or two songs and completed the background score.

Another point that I would like to mention about Naushad-ji is that he composed music for some of the best known and most popular bhajans of hindi films -- O Duniya ke Rakhwale Sun Dard Bhare Mere Nale and Man Tadpat Hari Darshan ko Aaj--both from Baiju Bawara.

These greatest bhajans were created by 3 legends who all belonged to a non-Hindu faith---written by Shakeel Badayuni, composed by Naushad and sung by Mohd Rafi ---- a classic example that music goes beyond all the boundaries of class, culture, region and most importantly, religious faith!
