During C2005 and now during EMAET, we often hear comments on the
appreciation for original voices or a fresh tonal quality (I am channeling
HR here) and how this is the most important need for the industry.

So I wanted everyone's opinions on what voices heard in SRGM are unique
or have a fresh tonal quality to them.

I will start with a few:

Fresh/alag voices:
Sharib
Hemachandra
Ujjani
Twinkle
Banjyotsna (horrible singer but interesting voice)
Vinita Pune
Irfan?
Nihira (sweet but different from Shreya)
Aishwarya?
Rajeev (never will forget his Yaar Ko Maine)

I think that one of the biggest letdowns of C2005 is that there was no
crowning of a new voice like Kunal, Shreya, or Mohd. Vakil.

Vinit was sort of a Sonu clone and Debo sounded sometimes like
Hemanta and sometimes like Kishore (sort of a Bengali mid ground).
Maybe Vinit's voice will change into something different (hopefully not
nasal under the influence of HR ;) ) Sonu started off as a clone of Rafi and
now is so much more. While Ahbijeet, Babul Supriyo and Shaan were all
influence by Kshore Kumar, they all have emerged with their own unique
voices. We are lucky to have South India's rich group to breathe fresh air
into the music scene with their unique trained voices (HH, Chitra, Shankar
Mahadevan)

My other thought is, why do MD's always talk about new voices and then
stick with the old? Maybe there is a need for a separate topic on this.

I would appreciate all of your comments on this topic and hope that you
will all expand this discussion.

In EMET, I think Saptak, Niladri, and Vishvas all have good tonal quality.

Kavita ji,

I think Himani's tonal quality is best suited for Rajasthani folk songs, and for songs in films like Rudaali, where she would sing and we would cry.😛 😆. Sorry, don't get mad, please.😃

Please don't compare Himani with Nihira. There difference is like this

Nihira Himani

Well said appada,

Agree with you. I liked this style of making others know how great Nihira is and that she should not be compared to others like Himani who is hell nothing................Now this will definitely shup up those people who used to un-necessarily compare Nihira with Himani. Himani must be talented but Nihira is class a part..........

Thanks for all of your comments.

Acutally i was thinking more along the lines of unique voices. IMO, Himani
sounds like Sunidhi; Saptak sounds like Kishore; Swananda like Asha,
Raktima like Lata....

Of course people may disagree but I was wondering about what unique
voices relaly stood out in these competitions. Feel free to bring in past
competitions as well.
