Encyclopedia says

Chemistry (derived from alchemy) is the science of matter at or near the atomic scale. In this pursuit chemistry deals with the properties of such matter, the transformations of matter and the interactions of matter with other matter and with energy. Chemistry primarily studies atoms and collections of atoms such as molecules, crystals or metals that make up ordinary matter. According to modern chemistry it is the structure of matter at the atomic scale that is determinant of the nature of any given matter.

Magic or sorcery are terms referring to the alleged influencing of events and physical phenomena by supernatural, mystical, or paranormal means. They can refer to cultural complexes of beliefs and practices that believers can resort to in order to wield this supernatural influence; and also, to similar cultural complexes that seek to explain various events and phenomena by supernatural means.

😆

Hope this helps our great Leslie.

Good one Appaji,

I am a singer myself and yes chemistry is very important. It is the emotions in singing which should be similar between both singers. I do not agree that we have to be looking into each others eyes or dance to bring real emotions. You have to feel the song, the situation
for exmple in RAat akeli hai, see how beautifully Ashaji goes from whispering in the ear to a kind of scream, which is emoting the song and I am sure she wasnt looking into anyone;s eyes whendoingthat.again in most SDB duets, he xplains the situation and the feeling needed and singers worked on it and brought the chemistry.that is emotion and how beautifully the music director SDB brought that out.
I think there was a period when there was a rift between RAfi/Lata and they did not sing duets, which may be because unless you have that chemistry you wont be able to emote well.
In South, SPB and Janaki had that chemistry.
PB srinivas and P Susheela had that chemistry.
It is how well you can complement each others' voice without sounding superficial.
I think in current years, Sonu nigam seems like he has good chemistry with SHreya.

i feel there is an extra dimension to the kind of chemistry we're talking about (haila, we're now into space-time einstein physics in chem too 😆 ). what's that?

it's the interaction we have with the song and the feelings that it evokes in us. the interaction each one of us has with the song is different, simply because we are all different, which is also why we all perceive it differently.

the chemistry we see or feel is therefore as much internal to us as anything external that actually "exists" between the singers... and that interaction between external and internal realities is the extra dimension... yaar, something like this. 😆
