Few thngs to know about this great singer....

Yesudas's first song in Tamil films was in the film Bommai and the song was Neeyum Bommai.

Yesudas has sung in a Bengali film named Kabita and guess who it starred ? None other than Kamal Haasan !!

Yesudas has sung very few songs for Amitabh Bachchan. The songs are in the film Alaap which has a wonderful song Koi Gaata Main So Jaata

The song Kalai Vaaniye in Sindhu Bhairavi sung by Yesudas is sung COMPLETELY in Aarohanam (ie only ascending order of swaras)

Yesudas-RD Burman, what a combination that would have been !! Unfortunately, for music lovers, they've come together only once for the film Alag Alag. Most of Yesudas's Hindi songs have been under Ravindra Jain music direction or some with even Bappi Lahiri ! However, there have been some wonderful numbers with Salil Choudhry too, like Ni Sa Ga Ma Pa & Jaan-e-man Jaan-e-man with Asha.

The song Kanne Kalaimaane in Moondram Pirai picturised on Kamal was written by Kavingyar Kannadasan and it was his LAST offering to the world of films. He passed away the next morning (?)

Y.G.Mahendra, on hearing the song Sundari Neeyum from Michael Madana Kama Rajan congratulated Yesudas on singing such a wonderful song. Yesudas humbly replied, "Its a wonderful song indeed, but the credit should go to Kamal, for he sung it". Needless to say, YG Mahendra was stumped !

Yesudas is the best when it comes to expressing painful love - the pain and the suffering is very much obvious to even the dumbest of listeners(Take me for example...I wouldn't be very much moved by a real-life story of lost love as much as I will be when I listen to some of his songs...) When it comes to Kamalhasan in those soul-touching scenes , it has to be Yesudas who is the singer!I always feel that his voice suits Kamalhasan the best!(Apart from Kamal's own voice!). He even sang for Kamal in this Bengali movie Kabita.

What makes him all the more special is that no other artist has held supreme in both the classical and lighter side of music as he has. Moreover, his renditions will always be remebered for the ease with which they were delivered and the raw passion in them. No other singer could've sung these lines better...

His songs are soulful.Like I was saying his 'ai mere udhaas man',Kishor kumar's "Zindagi ka safar & rook jana nahin to kahi haarke" always took me out of the gloomy moods !!

Do you have a link to his bengali movie kabita, that you were talking about ? that would be a great help.

Unfortunately I left India when i was quite small. What little i know is what I heard in my house and that's how got hooked to Yesudas ji and Kishor Kumar ji. I can only thank my elder bro for that.

Kabita in bengali has a Hindi version also - its called Jeevandhara and starred Rekha, Kanwaljit and Raj Babbar... Don't know which was the original though.. I think (not sure) the bengali version starred Mala Sinha and Kamal Hassan...
