<P align=justify>1939: He goes to college, is popular for his *extra-curricular* talents, falls in love with one of his admirers - the daughter of another rich man of Ludhiana's bourgeois society. Poverty and lack of the courage to fight another man-like-his-father bring this affair to it's inevitable sad end, made sadder by the fact that the girl's father pulls strings to get him expelled from college. It is so ironic that these days the same College is proud to own him as their star and famous student 😕 .They celebrate his anniversary each year 😊 .

Yes Sunitha ji, that is very much true 😊 But the College is named after Satish Dhawan. Another bright star from the same College.Satish Dhawan is the man behind Indian space program.A little bit about Satish Dhawan from the net..

The Indian space programme owes its birth to Vikram Sarabhai, but the technology development organisation behind them is the creation of Satish Dhawan. He showed how technology can be built in India, by Indians, working within the same bureaucratic set-up that all of us so love to curse.

Sahir is much more popular that Satish Dhawan though.

A fine singer, who sung quite a few hits in Hindi and in regional, even composed a hit song 'Tum Mujhe Bhool Bhi Jao, Technically may not have been too strong but her was does have the magic to touch you. Also got Kala Bhusan award, I know Punjini ji you have reservations for Sudha and Suman Kalyanpur (Sorry if wrong) , but as per me they both were great singers😃

Oh I didn't know that this thread had been recently revived and that people were replying to my comments made last year. 😃

Actually, I was planning to start a new thread on Sahir. In my trip to India this time, I bought "Poems of Sahir Ludhianvi" with Urdu, Hindi and English text for Rs 350.

I can't but gasp with amazement that most of the songs I love and cherish have been written by him. Wish I could do this to him 🤗

By today's standards, Suman and Sudha would have been great singers but in those days with the voices of Lata and Asha around, they got over-shadowed. It's like the moon becoming invisible when the sun comes out.
