Great post...soulsoup...very good analysis
being from a finance background not very good at marketing 😳 but I guess the so called 'Push' factor for Vinit/ HR did not work as well as Debojit's 'Pull' factor..
You are right in pointing out that HR should not have said anything bad about the competition..because if you speak bad about competition,
1) loyalists to your competition take it on themselves and they go out of their way to cause harm to you
2) You unknowingly point out the weak points in your competition and they work hard to correct it..and voila one fine day they are better than you..eg, US Car manufacturers v/s their Japanese counterparts..
