Excellent analysis....in fact,I was also impressed by HR's marketing skills..though I felt that he became over confident towards the end of the show. I feel that in marketing a product, you have to say that your prdt is better than the rest, but to say that its the best, leaving no scope of improvement is harakiri....IMO.

But, really wonderful analysis. 👏

Excellent analysis - and great work at bringing more intelligence to this forum. As for relevance, well this forum is about the show as a whole and not just the music, so it makes perfect sense. I wouldnt be surprised if Gajji himself picks up on the pointers and fiddles around with them for EMAET. As for HR and ID I am sure they will be thrilled to know they have an alternative career ahead of them as Talent Marketers should their music flop (which in the case of the former I sure hope it does - yes, I unapologetically despise the man and his music).

Thanks Aparna

Exactly my point – marketing is good – but over-marketing is disastrous 😉

soulsoup, great strategy paper- i think the kind of stuff worthy of a top-flight guy from a McKinsey or a Booze Allen. excellent, truly "mind-blowing"!

wld love to hear a bit more on the product (contestant) front- product positioning/ differentiation vis-a-vis others.

also how the product fit the market they were trying to reach. did they consciously realize which specific markets were captive and which new markets they should go for.

u have talked abt this but perhaps more from a sales/ advertising perspective.

maybe even some of the traditional USPs.

just my 2-cents.

Excellent point chatbuster – Yes I missed out that part.

Just to touch base on the subject of

If you think about the branding of Vinit – look at this forum - you will get an idea that average age group of his fan base is around 12-17 years (I am not calling anyone as Baccha pary or something – please don't bash me) . That's great in one sense – these are the people who go crazy over something/anything. But in other perspective – I don't think many of them had a huge spending power (SMS)

Whereas most Debu fans are from matured age group (again - it's just an observation IMHO) – had the spending power too.

Here was a plain vanilla kid blessed with nothing but oodles (and I mean tonnes of oodles!) of talent - and yet she managed to survive on the sheer basis of talent and amazing on-stage attitude which generated an enormous amount of goodwill especially among hard core music lovers.

Then again, perhaps THAT was her story - look at me; Saraswathi-ma personified! (I say this with all sincerity - no sarcarm implied or intended).

Too bad the other major talent, Sharib, wasn't that lucky. His 'keep up the family honour' story - a la cheesy 80s movies - was just too stale for the hip and happenin SMS generation perhaps.

No even Sharib's story would have kept up. His problem was that his mentors did not go for proper marketting. Maybe more because they wanted to leave the show. But whatever Sharib was not properly marketted and hence lost.........
