Thanks for the link Soulsoup...

But would just like to correct... Many of the rabindrasangeets have been used in Bengali movies possibly because there is a rabindrasangeet for every emotion.. 'Ei to hethay' is just one of such songs.. In fact 'Ami chini go chini' is also another rabindrasangeet used in Charulata...

Also there is a duet version of the song that Kishore'da had sung with Ruma GuhaThakurata (his first wife and Amit Kumar's mom) - Yes, I was wrong in my last post about Geeta Dutt... but other details were correct...

jayc1234 - please check here http://www.calcuttaweb.com/gaan/kishore.shtml
That's not a Rabindra sangeet.

"Ami chini go" - yes it is a Rabindrasangeet from Charulata - but not "Ei to hethay" - although must say it sounds like one. But the mix of formal and non fomal language (sadhu-cholit) usage is definitely not..ummm..

Just a few of my favorite Kishore songs..

Aanewala Pal
Mere Naina Sawan Bhado
Yeh Naina Yeh Kajal
Ek Chatur Nar (features my other favourite Manna Dey)
Jindagi Ke Safar Me Guzar Jata Hai
Aa Chalke Tujhe
Tere Bina Jindagi Se
Meet Na Mila Re Manka
Raat Kali Ek Khwab Me
Dil Kya Kare
Hume Tumse Pyar Kitna
O Majhire

By the way, I see people mention the Charulata song as their favourite.. Satyajit Ray, who was known to be an absolute perfectionist, specifically chose Kishoreda to sing that song in the movie, despite there being so many noted Rabindra Sangeet singers in Bengal at that point of time, because he needed a really soulful voice for the situation in the movie..Kishoreda on the other hand used to sing Rabindra sangeet only occasionally, and was known more as a Hindi playback singer..it was considered a blasphamous choice by many Rabindra Sangeet purists at that time.. but everybody was quiet after they saw the final result.. only a genius could recognise the true genius in another I guess..and till date Ray's choice of the singer is regarded as a pure stroke of genius..

There would never be another Kishore Kumar..

Kishore Kumar's voice would appeal to non-Indians as well, I feel. My cousin once gave a tape of mixed Hindi film songs to a Japanese guy but he didn't like it. Then he gave him a tape of Kishore songs, and the Jap loved it.

My all time favourite song of KK is Aa chal ke tujhe main leke chaloon ek aise gagan ke tale.... I can never tire of listening to this song.

Other favourites are

Diye jalthe hain, phool khilthe hain...
Kehna hai, kehna hai...
Kaise kahen hum, pyaar ne humko kya kya khel dikhaye..

And the list is endless. will be back to add them in.
