Bhaktaji, you are a classical music exponent. So how is it that you put Kishore Kumar above Rafi? Just curious. 😊
I am not trying to put anyone down or up here. I am not saying Kishoreda was better than Rafisaab or anything like that. I truly feel that they are great in their own ways. They are their own domains. Comparing two legends like them is like comparing apples to oranges.
For instance, Rafisaab's Man Re Tu Kahe Na Dheer Dhare is a timeless classic. Kishoreda sang the same song many years later as a tribute to Rafisaab. Of course, Kishoreda's voice made the song sound different. Kishoreda sang it well, but I'm most people would like to listen to Rafisaab sing it, as it was his style of singing.
All of the legedary singers are great in their own way:
Imagine Rafisaab singing "jaane kahan gaye woh din"
or Mukeshji singing "jhanak jhanak tori baje payaliya"
or Kishoreda singing "babul ki duwayen leti jaa"
etc.
BTW... there is a song "Raha Gardishon mein hardam" from the movie "Do Badan." This was ORIGINALLY sung by Mukeshji. However, to match the hero of the movie, music director Ravi re-recorded this song in the voice of Rafisaab.
Now imagine that!

Thank you for posting that article!!
Kishoreda is one of my top-most idols. Whether it was his singing, compositions, or just his personality, he truly inspires me. There is an online group of hard-core Kishore Kumar fans, and they fondly call him Guru. To me, he is truly "guru."
aa chalke tujhe me leke chalun ek aise gagan ke tale
jahan gham bhi na ho aansu bhi na ho bas pyaar hi pyaar pale.
BTW... Here is some good tibits about Kishoreda.
Kishoreda was really chewing paan and singing at the same time in "Khaike paan banaras wala."
His favorite actor was John Wayne, as he enjoyed watching John Wayne movies. He was upset that those kind of movies weren't made too often in India.
In 1983, he won the "Golden Record" from Capitol Records from Los Angeles.
Even though he, himself, was Bengali, he wasn't able to read Bengali. Anytime he received a song in Bengali, he would write in Devanagari (Hindi font) and sing it using a Bengali accent.
Even though the public and media would make Kishoreda and Rafisaab enemies, they were really great friends. In fact, when Rafisaab passed away in July 31, 1980, Kishoreda didn't celebrate his birthday (August 4). In his next concert, he started off singing the bhajan "Man Re Tu Kahe Na Dheer Dhare" in memory of Rafi-saab.
Kishoreda avoided singing with Shabbir Kumar in "Aana Jaana" from the film "Giraftaar" (1985).
KISHORE DA WITH TODAY'S MUSIC:
He sang for the following actors:
Anil Kapoor (Woh 7 Din, Jaanbaaz, Mashaal, Mr. India)
Jackie Shroff (Kaash)
Sunny Deol (Paap ki Duniya, Dacoit)
Suniel Anand (Anand aur Anand, Car Theif)
Amitabh Bachchan (do I need to start?)
Rishi Kapoor (do I need to start that one too?)
Javed Jaffrey (Meri Jung, Mr. Shrimati)
Mithun Chakravarti (Disco Dancer, Waqt Ki Awaz, Shandaar)
He's recorded with contemporary music directors like Jatin Lalit and Anu Malik.
