3) Seriously, you should try and listen to these three albums. Just these three - Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Kisna. He's just surpassed himself in Kisna with Kahe Ujadi Meri Neend, getting it sung by the classical maestro Ust. Rashid Khan...what a composition. And then that Qawwali-Mujra, Chilman Uthegi Nahin. About 7-8 singers singing it. With chorus. His arrangements and orchestration is superb. Western blended with indian. Then there's that English song in Kisna...raga based tune, with indian and folk instruments. Fantastic stuff.
The orchestration for Kahe Ujadi Meri Neend is western orchestra style, with some opera style voices joining in the chorus too....absolutely grand.

What to write about HDDCS? Got the RD Burman award for it. Devdas...got the National award for this one. Great music. Absolutely delightful.

Actually kind of off-topic here but Adwarakanath ji, in Kisna the theme and songs like 'Hum hain is pal yahan' and 'My wish comes true' were composed by AR Rahman. That is why ID reportedly had differences with ARR and Subhash Ghai because he wanted to do the whole film.

But both these music directors have done nothing short of amazing work in this movie. And lets not forget the wonderful lyrics by Javed Akhtar ji.

😆 simzxchick...No. I'm sorry. If I say anything, people might get the wrong impression (that I'm participating in personal bashing).

Look, you started this poll to what..get a feel for "which 1 has better songs!" Right? Well...that's an opinion poll. You can't open such a poll, and then not listen to others opinions. We heard you, now we're sharing.

Hmm...as far as cultural influences ........ Well, let's put it this way. Lately I've been hearing a lot of sitar and tabla as background music for what is popular. So I'd say classical Indian music is definitely infiltrating the western culture.

Perhaps I live in a ... strange ... part of the US, but people definitely do like and listen to the Beatles. Heck! We even get excited when Queen is on the radio. ABBA has definitely also surfaced a few times. 😉

Agreed, at the moment the preferance leans towards Hip Hop, remixes, etc. These genres are a part of the evolution of music.

Well, it's an incomplete thought, but I'll stop there. Lunch is, after all, equally important. 😉

It has to be Ismail Darbar. No doubt he has done more wonderful and ever-lasting songs than not only Himesh but also than many other music directors in India.

Classical or wt ever ancient music has actually drifted way back! I don't kno wt part of the world ur from but I dnt really hear the olden days music playing at this end of the world!!! And in fact people prefer modern remix tunes better than the old slow songs!! Although I have come cross many of my dads records like the old time favourite of kabhi kabhi n etc yeh they are cool songs but they dnt really have a huge popularity at the present time!!
N about Devdas yeh its cool at first, but one gets sick of it very soon!!
And of course western music is my favourite, but I think there a generational gap between us people coz u like beetles, who have actually faded away for me n thus I prefer the modern hip pop and RNB, slow jams and people like sean paul, R.kelly, 112, Mariah carey n etc!!! And so this gap between the tastes we have will obviously never change!! Coz every person has there own likes n dislikes!!! N course I agree Bollywood music has its own soul!!! And this is great!!!
So ID for me is okay!! But not really my type!!! As I have heard the same sorts of songs again n again n the same old tunes tend to bore me!!! Although A.R Rahman is fab!!! His music is kind of cool!!! 😉

And yes, there's no need to show ur pity on one's view!!! Coz it seems rather disturbing for me to understand that y people cnt appreciate others views n opinions!!! N u never know one's view might develop your thinking!!! (((viper8234))) 😡
N no I am no ware from there!!! I'm actually from central London!!!! ((Abdi))

i'm sorry but i dont agree with the opinion of your and the term used antique , first of all you should know the base of all music is classical music only even himesh once admitted that he got inspiration from laxmi-pyare. and if you are forgetting the bg's , bob marleys , beatles , madonna etc do you call these people antiques let me inform you all the tracks which are played today are actually inpired from these tracks , you name any hindi or english song and i could give you the original tracks , listen to any sufi songs and you would come to know in discs they are far more catchy wether you hail from liverpool or copa-america , music should be original be it any kinds. there is not even a single music director as talented as r.d burman in todays industry and not even a single untrained singer who could even come close to kishore-kumar. and one thing you must have observed that todays music lasts few weeks but old music lasts for years.

see i am not criticizing anyone here and i like all music be it rap jazz ,metal , classical , hard rock , acid rock ,fusion , blues , country music, balleds , raegeye , instrumental but not cheap remixes making no sense.himesh has done well in some song but not a trend setter for the time being he has to survive for more than 5 years for that.
