The point of SRGMP is to find a playback singer for a hero who is usually an adult (and in that case we need a male contestant with a masculine voice). Same thing applies for a heroine (in this case we need a female contestant with a matured feminine voice). So either way, voice matters.

This is one of the things SRGMP C2005 has never clarified, I remember a show in which Alka and Jagjit arguing, whether this was to identify a playback singer or just a pop and JS saying this is not a selection for playback singer(and noone from Zee or MD's opposed him)

I dont think Zee ever made a commitment regards Pop album/Playback singer as a criteria

And very few go across both modes.

Judging from the fact that popular Bollywood MD's were brought onto the show to identify the talent as Playback singer

But then what is the 2 year contract? if that is going to tie up the singer with Zee, is Zee going into the business of Film production(I dont think so)

So I think Zee TV itself is confused what they are looking for. They just took a copy of Indian Idol and rushed SRGMP into it without stating the goals

I am with u on that part. I thougt of that myself but couldn't find an appropriate answer.

ok, maybe I also shouldn't have said "The point of SRGMP is to find a playback singer" because now I am not exactly sure what this show is aiming for. But if u notice, consciously or sub-consciously all the contestants are show-casing their talent for playback offers (at least in my opinion). I felt the case of playback singing has been stressed more powerfully than anything else so far:

examples:

ID promising Sharib a duet with Lata and Sharib and Sharib was overtaken with emotion (happy) even after he lost

AS's giving breaks to Rajiv, Himani, Hema and Nihira

JL's giving break to Ujjaini

HR's giving break to Vinit

Bringing directors/producers like SLB and Subhas Ghai - reason for inviting them is to market the contestants' talents for future playback singing ( in addition to generating publicity of the show )

True, the opportunity to release an album is quite attractive for any of the contestants, but I personally think that getting an offer in playback singing is the more dominant goal for the contestants than anything else regardless of whatever this show is aiming for.

SaReGaMaPa was just an oppurtunity that all these people have to be thankful for. Although it needs a lot of adjustments, this show has united India in the fact that we all agree that it sucks in a way. SRGMP has also allowed us to push our favorites ahead and first of all actually recognize our favorites. (Mine are Nihira and Hemu 😉 ) Who cares about SRGMP? After this, we all know that we will just look forward to the voices of our favorites (Nihira and Hemu 😆 )

I used to be Vinit's fan but I noticed that he does not have that class in his singing what Deboo bhaiyaa has. Both are like my brothers but Deboo is far better singer.
