... is creating a whole different drama in the NE...

To the uninitiated, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is like American
Idol in India. Obviously it has way more viewers than
American Idol and is perhaps the most popular TV show
in India.

This guy from Silchar, Debojit Saha is one of the 4
finalists. Voting is done by the public using SMS
messages. Suprisingly enough our boy gets the maximum
votes every time (something like 50% of all SMS
messages). So much so the other contestants walked out
recently saying the result is a foregone conclusion.

In Silchar, the whole damn town is mobilized - so to
speak. Folks in Guwahati are coming out with
processions. The AASU has come out with a circular.
The politicians are throwing open PCOs for public to
some in and send SMSs. There is even a news item which
mentions the ULFA threatening dire consequences to the
manager of the show (this was actually a bunch of boys
having some fun :-)). Oh yes, the DC of Silchar
evidently put 5 of his assistants to sit and keep
sending SMSs.

And offcourse with us conspiracy theories and the
neglect of the NE are not far behind. Rival music
directors (the contestants work with a specific music
director) have deliberately tried to sabotage
Debojit's chances. In some ways this is real. For one
of the rounds these guys announced Debojit got 9 lac
SMSs. Someone in Guwahati went to the Reliance office
and found from Assam alone he has got 10 lac. So
Aadesh Shrivastav and Himesh Reshammiya became the
first Hindi film music directors to have their
effigies burnt in Guwahati.

I am happy for once the numbers are working in our
favor.

AASU urges people to vote for Debojit

GUWAHATI, Jan 20 – Reiterating their appeal to the
people of the State and the North East to vote for
Debojit Saha, who has emerged among the top three
contestants in Zee TV's Sa-Re-Ga-Ma singing contest,
the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and the North
East Students' Organization (NESO) today said that the
only way people could thwart the conspiracy hatched
against Debojit was through casting their votes in his
favour. "Last night's episode of Sa-Re-Ga-Ma has
exposed the plot against Debojit, which is only
because of the fact that he happens to come from Assam
and the North East," AASU adviser and NESO chairman Dr
Samujjal Bhattacharya and AASU general secretary Tapan
Gogoi said at a press conference.

"Debojit's case betrays the fact that for a section of
mainstream India, particularly for those who matter,
there is no India beyond Kolkata. Debojit has
established that nothing can suppress talent. Now it
is for the people to give a fitting reply to the
conspiracy against Debojit and thereby ensure that he
scales new heights in the world of music," Dr
Bhattacharya said.

He also wondered why some people, including the
mentors of the two other contestants were raising a
hue and cry over Debojit securing record number of
votes. "The voting, after all, is also a part of the
game. Moreover, Debojit has already established his
singing prowess in front of so many maestros," he
said.

Devasish Saha, the brother of Debojit and Kishore Deb
from Debojit Fan Club, Silchar, also addressed the
media persons. Expressing their gratitude to the
people of Assam and the North-east, they voiced
confidence that with all the good wishes of the
people, Debojit would be able to come out a winner in
the contest. "The response of the people has been so
overwhelming, and his unquestionable talent apart,
Debojit definitely owes a lot to the people in
reaching where he is now," they said.

Devasish said that he had asked his brother not to be
bothered by the latest developments and to concentrate
on his singing. "We have told him not get upset and
devote wholeheartedly to his music, as the entire
North-East was behind him," he said.

This post may give osme insight as to how people in Assam feel and to
some extent who can blame them? I am just surprised that they are
getting behind a Bengali -- if anything that shows the willingness to put
aside regionalism in a way.

I really wish that people would just vote for the best singer -- someone
classically trained like Debo would be the best choice now.

Man! he was 10 lakh votes behind Debu in the last round. Debu's fans have no time for panga - they spend their time voting Debu while you guys keep filling IF pages for Vinit. Go ahead make it to 4000 pages - that won't affect our Debu in any way.

Debojit is an awesome individual who not only sings great, but also displays great morals, values and beliefs. We have not known him personally, but yet our hearts are filled with love for him. I can only imagine how much his family and friends must be adoring him. He may win the challenge, but again he may not, it really does not matter, because in my eyes he has won even bigger prize and that is nation's love. It took Himani 7 months for people to fall in love with her, and it took only a show for people to be disappointed with her. The trio act has been heart breaking. Despite the fact I knew the outcome of the show through reading the updates, I was still SHOCKED by watching it on T.V. I am glad Debo has never displayed such ego towards any contestants. I can not believe during Himani's elimination he actually was shedding tears for her. God Bless Debo....Ameen!!!!

yeah I agree it takes a long time to get someone's love and support, but it can be lost in an instant... i never had anything against those kids, but their actions disappointed me. Debo again showed his truly good nature by forgiving them... oh, i kno ppl will argue and say he had to forgive them.. but i don't think so, and it must have been VERY hard after the hurt they caused him, but he did it anyways😊. yeah debo was crying and he instantly melted in that part... that shows his purity of heart.... hey thanks again for responding
