Yet, in the context of SRGMP, the best singer was the one who was just eliminated.

Yes, realmusic this is a genuine quote found at www.NewKerala.com .

Vinit, HR and Co. only perpetuated false allegations against Debo that he has backing by ULFA.

A right-minded individual with some sense of history will know that ULFA is an organization that is ideologically opposed to Bengalees...and Debojit is a Bengali.

Vinit scored highest percentage of votes for many weeks in a row (inspite of superior performances by others)...does that mean he also has some link with terrorist organization? All these are silly allegations and was does with an intention to malign Debo's well-earned credentials and put NE in a bad light.

The persons responsible should be exposed in public.

National spirit eludes Mr India event

Bano Haralu

Friday, February 3, 2006 (Guwahati):

Bijit Gogoi from Assam was in for a rude shock after he won the National Body Building Championship Mr India title in Mumbai on Sunday.

As soon as the results were declared, Shiv Sena members who were supporting the competition runner-up Sham Rahate started vandalising the venue.

They protested the results, saying Gogoi should not be declared the winner as he was an "outsider".

"The supporters began vandalising the green room, saying I was from the north east and hence not an Indian. I ran into the audience and sought protection," Gogoi said.

Rahate has now said he will not lay claim to the title, but angry officials of the Indian Body Building Federation say this is not enough.

The Federation has demanded an apology to Gogoi and may even recommend a ban on Rahate.

Meanwhile, Gogoi is back in his home state, and in the true spirit of a national champion, says he has put the experience behind him.

Shame shame shame

This article from Televisionpoint.com sums it all. Way to go Debo...all the best from us. You are the nicest human being in the show.

"I will not let silly talk affect my career"

If success is a path strewn with thorns, the finalist from Assam on Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has had more than his share of pricks and jabs. Debojit Saha is learning the hard way that in the unpredictable world of television, even earning the highest number of votes from viewers can be a dangerous thing.

With most of the votes coming from his home state, coupled with shadowy hints of alleged threats by ULFA against the other participants, the votes he earned became the centre of a melodramatic outburst from his co-contestants who threatened to walk out of the show out of fear for their lives.

Debojit is puzzled and outraged by ULFA controversy and says it is baseless. "Where do they get these ideas? I have earned votes from northeast and not from Assam alone and northeast is made of seven states. Had I had the ability to use my 'alleged contacts' I would have been already cutting albums, signing movies and not struggling to become a singer away from home. What some don't know is the fact that I also have a good number of votes from viewers in Mumbai," says Debojit, who has lived the life of a struggling artiste in Mumbai for the past two years. He adds, "If Assam has ULFA, Andhra Pradesh has naxals, and J&K has militants. That doesn't mean every citizen of these states is associated with underground groups."

Formerly a civil engineer, Debojit gave up a state government job with the Public Works Department to establish himself as a singer and he is not about to let controversies destroy what he has worked hard to achieve. "For the past two-and-a-half years I have been in Mumbai training under Pt. Askaran Sarmah. I will not let rumours and silly talk affect my career."

Debojit admits he was very shocked when the participants refused to compete further. For him it was a heartbreaking moment, but he maintained his composure. The soft-spoken competitor says he doesn't want to harbour any bitter feelings about it. "Thinking about that particular moment still gives me goose p***les. After everything happened, the directors of the show asked me to follow the 'forgive and forget' rule. The other contestants are all kids and as the eldest contestant I thought it would be very silly and childish of me to carry on the feeling. I went up to them and said 'let bygones be bygones."

Debojit is determined to put the incident behind him and concentrate on the show. He says he wants to prove his mettle through his talent. And it's not just Debojit who wants to put the past behind. His father and die-hard supporter, Dinesh Saha, also feels that his son is strong enough to forgive the kids. "It was a silly thing that they uttered, just rubbish. I have asked him not to focus on what happened but to concentrate on the future. I feel he will make it big," he says, speaking from Silchar.

For now, support from his fans and family is what is keeping Debojit upbeat. "While all this happened my source of inspiration and my constant support, my wife Bandana, would talk me out of any negative thoughts. She made it very easy for me handle the situation."

I am simply amazed that there has been so much writing about Debojit, people debating whether he should have been in top 3 or top 2 (inspite of him proving time and again that he is a good singer with good training), and yet there has been not much discussion in the forum of how undeserving Vinit's entry is in Top 3.

If the aim of SRGMP was to find a singer with an original voice, Vinit scores nowhere near Hema/Debo/Sharib. How many of his songs are beyond Sonu/Md.Rafi? Singing in sur/taal isn't all about it...a good, strong, versatile voice matters. If it weren't for HR's hype and his wily ways of fooling people with ma, topi, pyar he would not have this far.

It is a shame that SRGMP has such an undeserving candidate in the finals. The ideal contest would have been between Hema and Debo.

Now that Hema has gone, we should ensure that the title does not go to someone who has least respect for his co-participants, someone with an unoriginal voice (with heavy nasal undertones), someone who at this tender age has developed an attitude (that he is Md. Rafi), someone who is egoistic pumped up by his mentors.

SRGMP is too prestigious a programme and a lot is at stake...ultimately music is defeated if Vinit wins. The public should atleast make this decision right once and for all.

Abhi, you are correct in emphasizing that SUR TAAL is most important aspect of singing. Perhaps I could not convey correctly what I wanted to say.

I just wanted to say that one should have a good voice (and an original one) to make a foothold in the music industry...(though I really puzzled at public choices of sustaining HR's constipated nasal "Aashiq Banaya")...a voice that has some unique characteristics. Unfortunately a finalist in the most respected singing competition is there for us to bear sans a good voice.

Abhi, a case in point:

I thought (in lines with J-L) that one of the most deserving candidates was Saptak.

But since many found his voice/style too close to Kishore-da/Abhijeet, he was shown the red card by the judges (And yet persisted with Vinit)!!!

Saptak, if you remember, sang perfectly in what he sang...with perfect sur, taal but again his voice could not be branded as unique.

I guess you got my point.
