Border Song

There has been so much made out of the Border song that I thought people should know some history behind the maker of the movie : Mr. JP Dutta.

JP's younger brother was Deepak Dutta. He was tall, handsome and very lively guy. He was very patriotic and had joined the Indian AirForce in the late 1960s. I still remember his face today. Unfortunately, his plane crashed during routine plane testing and Deepak died. It must be 1970 or so. JP and Deepak were the only two sons in the family. JP was seriously imapacted by Deepak's loss like the rest of us. No wonder JP makes such good patriotic movies. I know he is missing Deepak even today - we all do.

As Surekha said, whenever her 5 yr old sings the Border song, people cry. Not to offend the VS fans, but Vinit did not add too much value to the song than it already had. Kapil is a patriotic Indian who has fought for his country and has felt the pleasure of winning and the agony of defeat in the cricket field so it is no wonder he cried.

Let us give credit for Kapil crying to where it is due : JP rather than VS or God forbid : HR.

You are so very true. Anyone singing the song or even just reading the lyrics would make a listener emotional. So yes, let's give the credit where it is due than attributing to Vinit or HR

As for Kapil's tears, it was clear he was moved by the lyrics about Maa and separation. The song itself is relatively easy compared to the others sung by Hema, Nihira and Himani.
vinit was struggling with his breath control as stated elsewhere in the forums so it was just an ok performance at this level.

I do not think Kapil cried because of Vineet's song. He was composed during the entire song. He became emotional only when he was asked his opinion and when he said to Vineet : you must be missing your mom, and you will never go back to your native plcae to stay. At this point probably he too realised what everybody misses when we grow up and leave our parents and he became emotional.

Thanks for writing about the background of this song. Listening to the song reminded me of the scenes between Raakhee and Akshay Khanna in "Border". Infact, THAT is what brought tears to my eyes, and I went back and watched the song again last night… I lived in New Delhi during the Indo/Pak war, so I vividly remember what it was like… Some events make such an impact, one can never forget, however distant they are !!!!!!

AND HR took advantage of these events and even his mother….

Otherwise, I was not touched by Vinit's rendition, or the "staged show"… I wonder how HR doesn't realize that we cannot see through these things ??? And the camera searching for tears in KD and HR eyes was ridiculous… it was all in such poor taste !!!!!!!!

I am really disappointed in his behaviour (understatement) !!!!!

Come-On people Let us give credit where it is due, HR is a genius as far as Song selection is concerned for Vineet(and only him).

I do not like the antics of HR, but he is a genius in choosing songs for Vineet(which BTW mean Vinamr, Go tell this to HR)

But all the drawbacks in Vineet's singing where overshadowed by the wordings in the song, has happened over and over, this one was the latest example, not that I dislike him.

Consider this, If Nihira had to Sing, Aai Mere Watan ke logo jara Aakh me bhar lo paani, or Vande Maataram by Latadi. Do you think she would have been out today? she would have blown everyone away, she would have Pocketed this contest last week, and the following weeks would have just been victory laps.

I digress, but the fact is Nihira lost on her home-turf, old songs, classical songs is the most painful fact that that we Nihira fans have not been able to digest. She did pretty alright in the new songs(Watch Kajrare on screen mute the volume and play Nihira's Vocals)

HR/Vineet and AS/Himani excelled in Song Selection, hence they are going to win the contest and Nihira/ID are left watching
