sareg: I completely agree with you and fault ID for song selection. In fact, ID starts by saying "Jab Jab yeh gana logon ney gaya hai voh bahut burey tara Harey hain" - tho phir aap kyon yeh gana NJ ko dey rahey ho.

Also, when Latajee sang:"Aai Mere Watan ke logo jara Aakh me bhar lo paani", Pandit Nehru jee also cried so you are perfectly right on when it comes to strategy of song selection....

Come-On people Let us give credit where it is due, HR is a genius as far as Song selection is concerned for Vineet(and only him).

I do not like the antics of HR, but he is a genius in choosing songs for Vineet(which BTW mean Vinamr, Go tell this to HR)

Consider this, If Nihira had to Sing, Aai Mere Watan ke logo jara Aakh me bhar lo paani, or Vande Maataram by Latadi. Do you think she would have been out today? she would have blown everyone away, she would have Pocketed this contest last week, and the following weeks would have just been victory laps.

Hi Sareg,

My comments on HR was related to the "staged natak"… of talking about Vinit's mother, bringing in HR's mother, camera zooming in on their eyes to find tears… that's what I thought was in poor taste…

Otherwise I totally agree with you about his song selection being "brilliant"… After all, good music has to touch your heart, and that song is unbeatable in doing that !!!

Again, you're right on the money with ID's song choice for Nihira. It was not a song that general public could relate to. "Ae mere watan" would be a wonderful choice for a patriotic theme, but in this case of old songs, any beloved number of Lataji would have done the trick…

Just imagine Nihira singing Lataji's "Yeh zindagi usiki hai, jo kisi ka ho gaya…" especially the dramatic "alvida" ending… Nihira is so good with the high notes, she would have floored the audience. Whenever Lataji sang that song live, she always got a standing ovation…

Anyway, just my response to your comments… take care.

Well said Surpremi & Shesthebest.

Its true people vote more for song than for rendition. I think ID opted just focused on complexity of song, rather than its popularity. & that is the reason Nihira lost. HR on the other hand focused only getting mass appeal & ofcourse cheap antics.

Now I hope & pray that all of the true talent lovers get together & concentrate on getting maximum votes for Hema. (I am still hoping that this show is not rigged).

HR is good at feeding the masses. Ma and Matrabhumi always makes Indian public emotional.

shesthebest I totally agree with you "Just imagine Nihira singing Lataji's "Yeh zindagi usiki hai, jo kisi ka ho gaya…" especially the dramatic "alvida" ending… Nihira is so good with the high notes, she would have floored the audience."

Very good comments - looks like song choice may have been the ultimate culprit.

Plz keep commenting - I am truly enjoying reading this. Also,it is helping me build the strategy when one day I will be a Mentor's Mentor on SRGMP 😉 😊

It's okay sunil, my nephew is like my son anyways. I liked ur post and the information linked to the border song. Know, we Indians get very emotional when it comes to our mothers -real or mother india. It is sad to watch that so called big personalities (HR) take undue advantage of this.

Long live India! I love my India, and proud to be an Indian!!

As for Kapil's tears, it was clear he was moved by the lyrics about Maa and separation. The song itself is relatively easy compared to the others sung by Hema, Nihira and Himani.
vinit was struggling with his breath control as stated elsewhere in the forums so it was just an ok performance at this level.

I agree.. Even Kapil's comments indicated that.. He said.. Bas yaad karte rehna wapas jana bahut mushkil hota hai.. He only cried because he missed his family. I dont know why the media is making it seem like the quality of the singing made Kapil cry..

However, I do disagree with the line that is bold.. I dont think we can really relate it to any other singer.. Vinit did the best he could.. Give him some credit too..

I thought Vinit did a good job, that is not an easy song to sing, he made a sincere effort and performed well.

Frozenn and Bollywoodcrazed,,
I don't know if either of you know how to play a keyboard or harmonium. If you do you will agree with what I am about to write. The notes of Sandese Aaten Hain are so simple that a beginner could play it in a couple of days. The songs that Hema, Himani and Nihira sang have so many grace notes and variations that it requires a lot of training. Any trained musicians here, please voice your opinion on this.
Given all that, Vinit did ok. His expressions were good. Based on the stage of the competition, it was an easy song. And you could clearly see he was faltering at the end of each line trying to get his breath.
