Very good find by you.

Infact the most blatant copy (maybe you can say song based on) of rabindra sangeet was done in the song "chookar mere man ko" from Yaarana .... it was based on the song "Tomar holo sur amar holo shara"

😳 😳 😳

Ill try to assess among remaining contestents who sang best out of genre, and Im also with a mentometer this time.

Hema: This is surprising to note that he is one contestent who has attempted songs sung by diff singers eg. UditJi: Ae Ajnabi, Kishoreda: Bachna E hasino, Sonu Nigam(Saathiya) and has done full justice with most of them.
To me his rich voice sounds quite diff, not exactly fitting in one genre, though many people have tried to fit him into SP Balasubra slot.I'll take Ae Ajnabi as an example out of genre: a song which gave goosebumps to Aadeshji, his ability to hit low notes was well displayed, full of expression & sur: a perfect 10/10.

Debu: To me he fits somewhere between Abhijeet & Kumar Shanu,
I'll take Hamma Hamma as out of genre: on this he got a lot of chumma from ID, shook a lot while singing but never lost sur, perfect modulation at places, deserves 10/10.

Viniit: One of his songs: Lakshya can be taken, it has been sung by Shankar Mahadevan, IMHO he carried high notes quite well, was in full flow & did justice to it, I'll give 10/10...

Sharib: sorry to bring him here, but no description of male singers is complete without him, many people said he was more towards sufi/qawali genre (including Himeshji in initial rounds who said after toota toota ek parinda ....kai gano me Sharib buri tarah se expose ho jata hai....) but time proved how versatile he was, he attempted songs from different singers, right from Nachle(by Daler Mehandi) to Yumma Yumma and showed that he could sing any song to his advantage.
I'll take Yumma Yumma: it has been sung by 2 singers, RD Burman & Mohd Rafi, he carried this song beautifully while many others fizzled out on RDX...never lost sur, deserves 11/10..... oops....soory.....
IMHO, if this contest was judged by people with Shiv Hari calibre I think then Hema & Sharib would have fought each other in finals, and it would have been a nail biting finish.

Nihira: this perfect play back material has done two songs which IMHO can be taken. 1.I Love you(HRHK)& 2. Rangeela re
I'll take HRHK: originally sung by two singers(Ashaji & Usha Iyer..those days Ushaji was unmarried hence not Uthup) at two octaves, one of the most discussed songs in this forum..she used her ability to hit high & low range to full advantage & left people spellbound...as always fully in sur & flow...deserves more than 10/10..

Himani: This girl with X factor actually has attempted 2 songs which I will consider 1. Jaane Ja(Ashaji, RD Burman) & 2. Aaj ki raat(Ashaji), latter was quite impressive, she sang full throated.. actually this song has spoken words that too by Ashaji, which is very difficult to imitate..but she made a very good attempt...deserves 10/10.

Please note that this is my humble opinion only...
please feel free to add songs which you think were out of genre even of those contestents who got eliminated, it will be great threads..

What a tremendous posts N. Sinha !!! It's a pleasure to read such an in depth analyisis of music.

By the looks of it, I am truly missing out on this show😭

Talking about Rabindrasangeet....many songs of Parineeta had a distinct Rabindrageet touch to them. Especially Piyu Bole and Soona Man Ka Aangan. The part 'Phool phool bhanwara dole...' is the Hindi translation of 'Phole Phole Bhramar...', written and composed by Tagore. But it was credited to him...through dialogues in the movie.

I especially love the drumming part in O babua, yeh mahua...it goes...oh babua (dhad dhad dhad dhan), yeh mahua (dhad dhad dhad dhan)...all through every 1 and a half rythym.

I thought some of Dilshad's songs were very good too...so were Aishwarya's...but the thing was, they sang all Rafi sad songs...so the mentors...especially HR didn't like it. I don't know why....

Vinit's Patta patta buta buta was awesome...but then again, he copies Sonu, and Sonu copied Rafi...so it's the same thing.

Swananda sang, mostly, Asha's songs. J-L were the most intelligent mentors I think. They brought out the cue quality in every singer. Sounding like Asha, with that touchy-breezy sensousness is tough. And attempting her songs is even tougher. And singing them well is worthy of a place in the final 6. My mom always says that of the two sisters, barring some of Lata-Madan compositions, singing Asha's songs are the toughest. I agree with her. Bravo, swananda!!!

That's very true. Lata made singing look easy, no doubt about that, but when it came to bringing tough compositions to life , no one can beat Asha.

Yup
Ashaji has sung oe of the most difficult songs, actually she was not patronized by music directors who were close to Lataji, she was favourite of Burmans & Kalyanji-Anandji, though for discovery of Ashaji OP Nayyar should be credited.
She had to establish a niche when her sister ruled the roast so she had to work harder, that explains her versatility.

I completely agree. Swananda was one contestant I thought would sweep off the entire competetion and win the contest, remember how Shivji (Shiv-Hari) was completely bowled over by her exceptional voice quality and her performance. Unfortunately, she had to go because of the stupid public voting system. If judges were to judge the competetion, I am sure Swananda and Nihira would've been in the finals and it would've been a great treat for true music lovers. It really wouldn't matter who wins among the both in the end. Same goes with Sharib and Hemachandra, both competing in the finals would've been just awesome.

Srianne

wow aapne mere dil ki baat kah dali..
public voting destroyed the show,, other than Swananda I miss keka...she was awesome.
