Agree whole heartedly. Salilda infact used to listen to western classical symphonies during his childhood in Assam of which Mozart was his favourite. No wonder, western classical music played such a role in his compositions. Infact his music was all about wonderful melodies with close-knit orchestration.
For me "Madhumati" remains his best hindi film composition to date ... (not demeaning "Anand" by any means)
In case of bengali movies, he did everything by himself. He always wrote his own songs. He wrote the lyrics, composed the melody, the background, the prelude and the interlude, wrote down the notation and the chord-charts ....
Probably the greatest music director of India .... not to forget his contribution to southern cinema ... especially malayalam cinema.
