Nihira is such a complete singer that her critiques are stooping to all sorts of levels trying to bring her down. She is being flouted for being arrogant and egoistical as these wonderful people cannot actually find anything wrong in her music. Deep down they all know that she is a winner all the way.

Maybe her competitors can try in C06. But she is the undisputed winner of C05.

Boy talk about Ego. Lataji had the biggest ego possible. She wanted Royalty for the songs she sang. Rafi disagreed saying that singers are doing Sadhana, not a 'job'. She didn't sing with him from then on for quite a long time. She had a similar tiff with Burman Da. She stopped singing for him too, for six years. You read her interviews...ego aur arrogance kut kut ke bhari hai. It's no secret that she used all her power in the film industry to supress new talent. She did that to even her own sister...but she wasn't very successful. Asha carved a niche of her own. She refused to sing for OP Nayyar saying he wasn't classically trained. He swore he'd make it big without Lata. He trained himself, used Asha, Shamshad begum etc and gave us exquisite classics. What has her ego done? Has it brought about her fall? Has it brought in any less money? She's sitting at the summit of the Indian Film Industry, and even today, is the most powerful woman in the industry.

But then, Nihira does NOT have an ego. Daler Mahendi is a crackpot who had the insolence to talk more when Pt. Jasraj was sitting beside him. Bloody, he gave points on the number of times someone lost the sur. He said Nihira had an ego. They camera showed a shocked Nihira when Jatinji said that today Ujjaini sang better than Nihira. If you know human nature, the only reason why a girl like Nihira would've been shocked was because a mentor was saying that openly, flouting codes of conduct, and that too in front of someone as great as Pt. Jasraj.

I reiterate what Sinhaji and I've been saying. Nihira is a genuine singer. She never loses her Sur. You don't need to have expressions when you sing in a studio and record. Lata isn't herself great at expressions, still there's no compromise in her singing. Nihira is a singer in the same mould of Lataji, Suman Kalyanpur, Alka Yagnik (she has one heck of an ego too. Refer to the episode where she and Jagjit Singh were the judges...i could've slapped her ruddy face). I want to see her face when she sings 'Na Jiya Lage Na' from Anand. It's a heck difficult song to sing..with the notes jumping left right and center. Even lata has to close her eyes and concentrate when singing that song. I wish Nihira wins this contest. She really deserves it.

It is no secret that Lataji & Asha tayi had rift and lived separately...
BTW jiya lage na....this song is easier than Tasveer teri dil me, if any other song would succeed tasveer teri dil me in jumping notes..then it has to be Salilda's no one else...
Im sure other than Kavitaji many will be taking takes & etakes if it comes to singing this song live.

Also SD Burman somehow made simple but beautiful songs...but not Salilda...he often fused 2 or more raags.
Now I remember Jatin's inetview on DD after Salilda's death, he said Salilda ki khasiyat ye hai ki inka gana sunne me asaan lagta hai par notes bilkul chakari ki tarah ghumta rahta hai.....phew...
You know I felt very bad when he didn't get recognition after his death, only musician who got immortalized by death is PANCHAM..

Partly, he flouted many indian rules of music and incorporated western classical nuances. Out of octave jumping notes is a westrern classical hallmark. But salilda was an awesome composer. Wish we still had men like Anil Biswas, Naushad, Salilda, both the Burmans, Shanker-Jaikishen, Madan Mohan (my all time favourite) still composing today

Yes this is 100% true all musicians who have fascination for western classical adore Salil chaudhary.

I actually feel very bad about Madan Mohan. His melodies and his orchestration are unmatched, except maybe by the genius of Shankar-Jaikishen. He composed for B-Grade movies...and when he did make music for hit movies like Woh Kaun Thi, the awards were given to established MDs. He drank himself to death in despair. And ironically, his two biggest hits - Mausam and Laila Majnoo were recognised after his death. Who can forget the misty haunting voices of Lata and Bhupinder singing Dil Dhoondta Hai, and the effect that comes out is surreal...like two fragrant roses gently swaying in the wind...ah that was music!

Yes in fact Lataji said if any one wants to learn Ghazal singing he should listen/practice to Madan Mohan's songs....

Man you guys have such superb knowlege of music that it puts novices like us to shame. It makes it difficult to write things which compete with your levels of intellect, Sinhaji and Adwarakanathji!!!!!!!!
Very interesting reading compared to the usual done to death boring reads about the topi, paresh s loud mom in law, Hemas overenthu dad etc.
Keep up the good work

Well, that's not really true. Movies like Aradhana (credits say SD Burman, but we know the real story), Amar Prem, many of Kishore's movies, Ijaazat (got Asha and him the National Award), Teesri Manzil were huge hits then and there. RD was big time in his lifetime. But after his untimely death, people realised the timeless quality of his music and the mass cum class appeal. They realised what they had lost. That's why his fame blew up after his death.

then I can ask you to explain Salilda not getting recognition, it just came in a corner of TOI, Ive that cutting till now with me....
And he died AFTER PANCHM, but see Pancham: attention he got....
Why people didnt realise class of Salilda.....
