Way back in 1992 Udit Narayanji was recording a song for Feroz Khan's movie Yalgaar, the lines of the song went like' Aakhir tumhe aana hai zara der laegi' , Uditji was doing fine in practice session , but whenever recording started he sang: .......jara der lagegi.....
It took some more sessions then it was fine, (Uditji being from land of Bihar).
Those of us who have stayed in & around West Bengal know that many of us can't spell R properly, this is seen in song: 'pardesi pardesi jana nahi'(Raja Hindustani): R in Pardesi is the landing note, despite that Kumar Sanu hasn't said this note properly even in the final recording.
Both of these songs were nominated for National Filmfare Award. And both of these singers went on to become one of the most accomplished Hindi music singers.
Those who have listened to Yesudas in Hindi songs will agree that the simple innocence & emotion of his voice made everyone take notice & hum with him...... (Now he couldn't establish a place in Hindi music was because of the fact: that era belonged to the Golden voice of Mohd Rafi/Kishore da, for that matter no one from any part of India survived in Male Hindi singing as long as they lived).
Keep a hand on your heart and tell me: how many of us have noticed a diction problem when AR Rehman sings; Dil Se or the song which brings us to tears: Ye jo desh hai tera(Swadesh)........not to mention KK, Shankar Mahadevan & others who speak Hindi very well.
Music in itself is a language and doesn't need words to communicate/sweep across..all it needs is a heart ready to accept music.
My humble opinion only........sorry for raking this issue again.

On the other hand, with Hema, he can carry the tune, but his emphasis on the words is off and thus it feels like he doesn't mean what he sings. It's not where you're from. Most of our local singing group singers are from the south, but they were used to speaking hindi from the childhood.

Give him some time, he would be fine. I think many other singers have started just like him. If Im not incorrect, KK is one of them: he started his career singing rock songs f or college Bands. KK's forte is pop and rock ballads even today according to him.

With all due respect, given some time, I'm sure he and other people will pick it up. We have don't a crystal ball and we don't know what to expect in future. However, we have to make our decision based on the present and as of now the present is not great for Hema. Aap ek cheez observe keejiyegaa - jab woh Shaan ke saath gaatay hain, to pataa lagta hai - aise lagta hai ki kuch swad kam hai - jaise daal mein namak kam hai. Debojit on the other hand, has not let this handicap his singing. Also, Debu always maintains his pitch better than Hema.

Both of them, I mean Debo & Hema are awesome in maintaining pitch & other details of song. Probably you mean there is lack of emotion, ...I neve felt this.......of course my opinion only.....

It is said that singers are like pickles, with age they mature & becme more tasty. It is because they pick up many tricks & polish their skills as they grow. Simple example: compare what Kavitaji used to sing at age of 15 and what she sings now, there is huge diff in terms of skills, voice control....everything.

the ball is anyway in the court of people now, what I or anyone else says is our personal opinion only with full respect to your opinion. It is a pure discussion nothing more. If you like Debo, 3 cheers to him..... 😃

Niraj u said it man....bingo!

One word for Debu : Old wine in a bottle😛

Chandu again is that curd-rice delicacy which needed the right seasoning in terms of song selection .Well last time he fixed the dish by choosing the right song a la Saathiya....if he continues to do so it will be a sumptuous feast all right!😊

Very well analysed. Hema's voice is like "shahad". Little diction problems can't tarnish his singing capabilities.
