I was debating posting that video! ๐Ÿ˜† I remember seeing that too. I thought it was funny, but a little rude too on his part. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

But there is nothing wrong in discussing good music, at least these threads do not demean/derogate any one nor do they turn into chat forum/spam forum, most of the times.

If manna da has given the song an Arabic flavour, lyrics brings tears into eyes.

And this is so true, the song is about Kabuliwala who left Afgan for India and remembers his country every now and then.

Even after so many years Afghans suffer, unable to live in their country ..

Love all his songs. This is my most favourite song of manna dey's. It is so piognant, the lyrics and the emotions he brings to this song, makes me cry every time i listen to it ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I saw Manna Dey from up close and personal when he came over to NYC for our Annual Bengali Conference and performed at MSG. He is a great singer, a living legend, but he has a lot of attitude problems! He was constantly complaining about everything on stage from the lighting to the musicians and barely sang any good songs all evening. I know people get cranky when they get aged but he threw a lot of tantrums and threw the organizers in a tizzy.

That apart, I love many of his songs, including the Bengali ones: Ami je Jolshaghorey and Ami Jamini Tumi Shoshi hey:

That is Anup Kumar Ganguly, middle brother of Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar. he wasnt as successful as his 2 brothers but did secondary roles in several movies like Chalti ka Naam Gaadi, Dekh Kabira Roya, etc.

In this song, Manna Dey lends voice to Bharat Bhushan (the younger on-screen singer). The other singer is Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.

Was I not right, IDji?

Sudhin Dasgupta wrote the music of Hayto Tomaari Jonyo. All the Bengali songs I posted were composed by Manna Dey.

I was looking for Katha Dao Aabar Aasbe. But YT doesn't have it. ๐Ÿ˜’

Manna Dey was full of praise for M Rafi , about Kishore da his opinioin was not very high . When he had to be pitted against Kishore da in ek chatue naar where he eventually loses the battle, getting Manna da ready for recording was not wasy for R D Burman, a lot of pleading, cajoling went behind. He was firm "why should I lose to Kishore".
In his own words ''Rafi, Lata and Asha are my favourite singers. I think of Rafi as the top singer in the world. He was a gift of God just like Lata Mangeshkar. No one can learn to sing like them,'' he says. But the octogenerian singer is scathing in his criticism of the current generation of music composers.
