There are so many of them in my memories.
I am feeling very nostalgic, pls listen to this a real GEM. From the house of one and only R D Burman. Listen to madal being played by kancha in rhythm whom you saw recently in II5

Pls allow me to include this song in Tamil from the film Agnee Nakshtram.

Like me you don't need to understand a word of Tamil yet one can go into bliss of this song.

Ilaya Raja was the only musician other than R D Burman who knew how to use Bass guitar.

They took their respective music to dizzying heights of effects using various forms of guitars.

That will take another thread and 150 pages to discuss.

ID....since you are a musician yourself and you know lot about these music arrangements in hindi music, I have a question for you. Why Bass guitars are often ignored in hindi film music? If you watch reality shows almost all of them dont use bass guitar. Do you think hindi music does not need bass guitar at all? If you listen to western songs you will hardly find any song without bass guitar. Why bass is so neglected in bollywood?

All the reality show have bass guitar in orchestra but fail to use them effectively. Most of aam junta is not connected with this instrument and it doesn't bother them if it is muted or completely ignored in arrangement and sound lay out. It will take hell lot of effort to bring out its effect in reality show. With rona dhona and so much of drama going on who has time in a 2 minute rendition towards instruments.

Amul SVOI has a better arranger but the bassist often forgets the bass lines ( or is not provided to him), I have even noticed poor or wrong chord progression even wrong notation in the orchestra \s of the reality show. Clearly this is one area which needs improvement. Barely 2 months from now one would see orchestra being replaced by tracks…

In Hindi music Shankar Jaikishan duo are credited to have brought Jazz and Waltz music in Bollywood. They were masters in fusing raga with jazz and produced the first fusion effect using (manual) bass guitar. R D Burman revolutionized the whole thing>
One evening while talking to Ramesh Aiyyer & Tonyy Vazz (Bassist for R D Burman) they told me when Hare Krishna Hare Rama came they were stunned to see Bass being used in such a prominence , it was audible even on ordinary radios. Others have followed the suit. Rest is history. RDB used Bass in every form; with drums, with tabla (jane do na from sagar) at times without any instrument (mausam pyar ka), he is credited to have used bass guitar to even open a song then following it in loop (ye wada raha)

Now a day's one can listen to a lot of bassing; on synthesizer, on guitar at times as audio sample; it sounds very mechanical, the soul of bass is missing.

I hate synethisers bass. It cant create the effect and feel of manual bass. You are right general public do not care about bass guitar and its effect.

A tad schmaltzy for me, but still I like these songs. They're based on raag Ahir Bhairav (I guess) and Shivranjani (I'm sure) respectively.
