Very happy for A R Rahman.
With the exception of ARR I was really hoping SM wouldn't win any award. What a condescending film and Indian Bollywood crowd falling over themselves. Especially Anil Kapoor.

We all knew ARR's work is of international standard and these prizes were never far away from him. Must say here while world is recognising potential of Bollywood music today (can't say pure Hindi or classical because of the nature of SDM music) our music has been there since LONG.

I was watching Gulzar's remark over whole thing and he said: jitni zor se Jai Ho kah rahe hai utni zor se Jai Hind nahi kaha hoga ....

My points:
1. Sukhwinder name also should have been there he has sung this song very well (Jai Ho), chalo kam se kam Ghulzar saab ka naam hai aka Sampuran Singh Kalra.
2. Resul P Kutty conducted himself very well: Remember he was overwhelmed on getting the Oscar and he comes from a middle class background in Mumbai. He mentioned that he cames from a civilization that gave the first sound to the world, a silence followed by a longer silence called Om. He dedicated his award to his country [India].
3. I expect many copycats now aiming to cash in on free rides dissing india....all in one mish mash like 'untouchable/ dalit / kashmiri/etc millionaire' can't be far away, I guess.....

People in Canada are very desi, especially the Punjabi's. There are Punjabi's everywhere in my city, it's like India really!
Yes, no one watches anything English in my home. 😆

BBC onThe Global tunesmith A R Rahman

Rahman is also globalisation's favourite child, always abreast of the world music that is making waves. No wonder he discovered the music of MIA, aka Maya Arulpragasam, the war child turned feisty alternative rapper, who very few people in India had heard before Slumdog.

Rahman uses MIA's Paper Planes - the singer rapping over a compelling sample riff and a rousing chorus line with gunshots and cash registers jingling in the background - in Slumdog.

For the Slumdog score, Rahman says he was mixing the sounds of new and old India. But Slumdog is not even among his top five scores.

The songs and score for Roja (The Rose), a 1992 film directed by Mani Ratnam, is possibly his best and most consistent work to date.

Best song O Saya
O saya is rapid beat thematic played on taiko drums. What is amazing is the innuendo being used in the first 30 bars, what an impact and then another drums enters to set the rhythm, lot of distortion guitar, dash of bass guitar witha flying away effect and finally chords played on keyboards pretty late, deadly arpeggio (ARR's favourite) quite a few sound samples used. There is a lot happening , no where ARR allows the thematic to become insipid. These effects have been used by ARR in diff thematics in past, specially in yodha, does some one have that?

Is this rapper the same Sri Lankan ..?

Sukhwinder Singh unhappy

http://www.zeenews.com/entertainment/music/2009-02-22/509915news.html

"The number nominated in the original song category at the Oscars, is sung by me. That gives me a kick. Sadly, singers of all other numbers will be performing. People are asking me why I am in India now. Main kya bataun? Sab mujhe ullu banake bhaag gaye! It's depressing to be left all alone to answer such questions," the singer further said.

Not skipping a beat, Sukhwinder added, "Oscars ka raasta pata chal gaya hai mujhe... in the coming two years, I'm surely going to perform there. Just wait and watch!"
