Rehman's speech was lack-luster. Nobody understood his dialogue "Mera paas Mai hai"

He said he always choose love over hate, as if others (we all) choose hate. He was given the greatest platform to speak to international audience and he didn't take advantage of it, he totally blew it. He didn't come across a great composer. He lost the opportunity to thank his mentors or the Indians who helped his to come to this level., or to thank Bollywood for encouragement and respect. He spoke so fast that Guljar's name was not clearly heard. Overall not good speech or appearance.

Btw, Rehman's only song I like is "Tere Bina" I don't think Jai Ho is very good.

Congrats to ARR, Resul Pookutty and Pinky of Smily Pinky for their effort. Oscar is like noble prize of Cinema and every Indians should be proud of their sons and daughter who won this award.
ARR did what nobody even Naushad(Forget about other) could do in 60 yrs of Indian music history. None of ARR songs went unnoticed till date. In last 17 years we saw many music directors/composer/lifters coming to the scene and then disapeared but ARR is still there without showing any greed and arrogance. It speaks a lot about this person, who has already worked in different eras of bollywood music.
About SDM, I loved this movie, it shows what is in slum of India. Loved the concept to relate real life events which came as question for a person. I am not hypocrites like many who just want west to show the rosy bright picture of India(IT and Yoga) and sulk over real picture of slum shown on the screen. Our mind has corrupted so much after watching unreal Hindi movies, we dont want to see the real movies. People are crying foul over which is reality in SDM but nobody is saying against unreal thing shown in movie.
If foreign directors are making movie about India they are unbiased, they don't have to change the story, actor, actress or title under pressure from Raj Thakre or Bal Thakre or any other goonda or organizations. We saw what happened with Mira Nair few years back when she was shooting for "Water" in UP. A movie based on North Indian immigrant of Mumabi be released in Mumbai. If you have name Barber, chamaar, pandit etc. in title then you have to remove those words. Under so much pressure how can we expect a producer to procude a movie being unbiased.

I found this interesting comments in other forum and thought to share in this forum
Some of view points on the OSCAR.

SLUMDOG MILLIONARE :- Kudos to you, most of critics disagree that you should win so many awards but you did so hats off to you.

OSCARS PPL :- Come on you knew A.R. Rahman would win so how about getting his name right.

A.R.Rahman - You deserved it, you are full of talent and you were awarded in the eyes of the oscar sooner or later your name was written on oscars. So Congrats

Anil Kappor:- Dude so some class. You stood up and clapped like a monkey in BFA now in Oscars at the end you were carrying Colson's award and raised it up and down like you won the cricket world championship. It was good they went off the air after that. It was a humilating act on your part. You are there representing the actors of Bollywood so show some class look at A.R.Rahman how humble he was. Dude if the director had cast the monkey in your place the movie would still be recognized. your part was limited be thankful you were a part of the movie

Dev Patel and Freida Pinto:- You were just a cast members of this movie. Please do not consider your self as celebrities like Brad and Angelina. Dev the best thing you will do in hollywood is be another Kal Penn. Starting in another Harold and Kumar and yes you will be Kumar. I heard Pinto divorced her fiancee after Slumdog millionare won the BFA are you serious ? The real ppl that made the movie interesting was those slum kids. Common the kid that dove into crap saying amitabh Bachan was the best part lol..

Directors and producers - Finally you did something right by bringing those kids to the oscars if not you would have heard a lot from critics after the news that those kids were underpaid.

I saw the whole oscar awards show. indeed Rahman made india proud and pookutty show the world that india is equally advanced in technology. I just loved his speech. The only thing I could not understand is why there was no mention of Sukhwinder Singh without whose voice jai ho would not be where it is today. I would have loved to see him on the stage with Rahman.

I watched the whole program and was immensely proud that Rahman and Phukutty won the oscars. they showed that india is a country to reckon with. The only thing that irked me was why there was no mention of Sukhwinder Singh without whose golden voice jai ho would not have been what it is.

Please read this article.
1.Oscar-winner Slumdog Millionaire has resonated with audiences for having the guts to reveal social realities in India - police using torture to coerce a statement, the deaths of civilians out of religious conflicts, and child abductions and abuses," the China Youth Daily said. It praised the Indian government has also been praised for allowing its screening in the face of criticism from people who believed that the movie blemished the image of India

2. Well known film critics Bi Chenggong and Zeng Zihang attribute the movie's success at the Oscars to its feel-good factor at a time when the United States was reeling under the financial crisis

3. Bi said in an article that the showing of utter poverty in the film acted as some sort of consolation to American viewers hit by the financial slowdown. "To some degrees, it is a kind of encouragement for them not to lose heart," he said.

Another critic described it as "a delicious chicken soup for the soul" of the American people at this time
