rahman is ok.... he was more of a step sideways rather than a notch up from jatin lalit. he scored because he was unique.

as far as the video is concerned, alka was totally right, but jagjit singh has a point .... ar rahaman is famous mainly because of what he says..

i agree with jatin ji that there are no films these days which can give ghazals.. tho perhaps rahaman could have made one for jodha akbar.

aadesh was 100% right.

and i feel that a song like jai ho can be made by any local music director for the indian cricket team before the world cup. even vishal shekhar's knight rider's theme was better than jai ho.

I agree completely with the bolded part
The music was required for the situation and if it was a ghazal then that would not sound in place... plus it was supposed to be for the western audience.
I love AR Rahman and I think hes an amazing musician first, then think to criticize.

Seriously, should be better fit to carry on this discussion on in GG/ARR thread itself. If at all required. Nothin much to add, other then ARR whatever said and done is one of ACE music composers of India.

I think it is an old tiff between those who practice classical music vs Hindi filmi music. Shiv Hari them selve said once it was not easy to foray into Bombay music since it was not purely classical and their contemporaries looked down at them for disgracing classical music.
Ravindra Jain once said in subtle way A R Rahman is better master of sounds than a composer in a interface, but in the next line he said I am in minority.

Won't mind raj, if you merge this into the ARR/GG thread.
