This music industry lives on playback, and that's what we should be judging. Udit Narayan is far far ahead of most singers in that criteria. He tops in versatility, voice quality, knowledge of music, collection of songs, etc, and is far ahead of any playback singer today.
The problem here is that every time we talk about a playback singer from today's age, you guys automatically start comparing them to Mohd. Rafi and Kishore Kumar, well that comparison is unequal and unfair. You should establish the fact that you're not going to find another Rafi. Then open your eyes and judge these others singers without bias.
Making sense here?
yes its impossible 2 achieve legendary status 2day. the king wud even dare 2 say if kishore n rafi were born 2day considering the quality of our music n lyrics n the vast pool of singers even they wud not achieve the legendary status again. sorry if sum1 found this offensive but if they wud sing songs like desi gal, white white face etc even they wud not be remembered even after generations.

And like you guys mentioned, there are other factors that keep these singers from maintaining the same status as Rafi and Kishore, besides talent, there's also the quality of music today.
