WA I notice that sometimes you cannot help yourself.😆

There are many singers in India (both Hindi and regional) who have never had any classical training but have/had sung semi-classical songs with ease. I have mentioned about the South Indian singer S. Janaki before in another thread - she is from Andhra but was the melody queen in Malayalam. She couldnt read or speak Malayalam, and the lyrics were written in Telugu for her to sing. She never had any classical training, but she had the talent. If you listen to her songs, you wouldnt believe she didnt have classical training! She has won several Kerala state awards and national awards as well as regional awards. Before Chitra, she was the most sought female singer for mallu movies - and remember, mallu movie songs are mainly soft melody and semi-classical, especially in the 70s, 80s and all. I will post a few of her songs later.
The best mallu singer of all time - Padmasree Dr. K. J. Yesudas, who is also a master in Karnatic music, speaks very highly of S. Janaki all the time and respects her a lot, saying she is someone who has the knowledge of music. All mallu singers of her time and after her time keep a lot of respect and awe for her.
In fact, I believe with too much classical music, some singers make the film songs sound aweful - by extra pitching and unnecessary vocal chord vibrations - like they do for Karnatic music. That was one of the flaw for Shashi, if you remember, as pointed out by Ashaji. As long as they dont control that "extra" bit they do, they would never be able to sing a film song very well. Just my two cents - no arguments!

YES YES YES!!!!

FINALLY!
Too much classical KILLS the song.

Khatarnak, these melodies are based on the 7 notes.. it isn't necessary u need to base it on a raga..

rd burman's songs were so simple and melodious...

there is an article on mukhesh ... some classical guy asked an md why inspite of classical training he had to go by cycle while untrained mukesh had a mercedes.. the md gave him a tune.. the classical guy failed!
thats why he went by cycle 😃

also rafi hardly had any training, kishore used to merely observe singing classes of some relative of his, yet they souned better than manna dey..

Some S. Janaki songs (malayalam):

I think that's enough - there are hundreds of songs by her... BTW, in case you are wondering about some of the actresses in some songs - yes, they are who you think they are - a bunch of them became popular in mallu movies before coming to Hindi... Sridevi, Sarina Wahab, Reena Roy, Pallavi Joshi, etc to name a few... 😃

OMG!!!!!!!! Am I dreaming or what?! 😵 😵 😵 Nope, it's real - OBJ agreed with me!!!!! 😳 😉 😃
Thank you, OBJ!! You know it better than me, since you would be familiar with a lot more songs than I am... Many best singers in the South didnt have proper classical training but they were/are so good!! 😃

I dont wish to see Yashita winning over Vaishali and Pratibha however i dont beleive just because she doesnt have classical base doesnt mean that she is not good singer. As OBJ and akanna made clear that classical traning is not compulsory to reach the height of success, I also beleive that classical traning does give you solid base but that doesnt mean singer without classical traning are less sound. There are many examples like my favorite kishore kumar and KK. There are many singers who have little semi classical traning but they are scoring flying colors in music industry. Even Udit Narayan doesnt have classical traning.

Back to the Yashia, she doenst deserve to win over soumen and Vaishali not because she doesnt have classical training only but she is not good compared to those two singers.

Exactly!! 👏 👏 👏
OBJ, you have impressed me BIG time!! You are a matured teenager now!! Wow!! No joke, I am serious... Many times, you made silly comments like a teenager and you have turned the tables now! Very impressive!! 😃 👏 👏
Even to make an artist, especially a singer, it would be hard if they dont have the talent within... 😃
