It was qwalli round and not ghazal round. They should have a ghazal as well and I am sure they will sooner or later.

Thanks Mike. Kwalli is good and Ghazals are very enjoyable too. But younger generation may not like Ghazals so much.

Yeah the young generation like to jump up and down and sideways, in ghazal you have to think and enjoy each word and how the singer express each word of the poetry.
You know last year when they show an AV lot of ppl like Qawwali and ghazal round. If the singer explain briefly the heavy words of urdu then I think ppl will like them. Seems like young generation does not understand heavy urdu. I myself have the same problem cuz I learned hindi initially upto gr 6 and learned urdu later on in my life. I increased urdu knowledge by my own self to some extent.

Well good for you. Good thing about Ghazals and Kwallis is that the music is never gets old. Ghazals have a deeper meaning when we are more reflective and enjoy quietitude.

You are welcome,Summer.Mehdi Hassan is Shanshah of Ghazals,no doubt.Ranjish hi shai, shola tha jal buzaa hun and many other ghazls rendered by him leave a permanent mark in our memory.Same about Hungma,Chupke Chupke by Ghulam Ali. Our own Jagjitji has made Ghazals so popular in India.

yes Ghazals are getting popular in India as we can see from the Reality shows. I think Ghazals are here to stay in India forever. Sufi songs and Punjabi mixes are also getting popular.
NFAK has also been very influential with several of his renditions. Also love his "Sason ki mala", Tere bin, and several others. I think it is his energy which is very significant.
