But still the question remains un answered at least Anwesha, Nihira were genuine talents but why don't we come across more of that breed in realty shows?

Its a matter of perception, thats all. I love this girl Anwesha and if you see my posts in VOI, they were suporting her so strongly that i nearly got banned. I got into fights with the mods and it was very ugly. Basically people there on the forum were big time supporters of Aishwarya, the girl who won. She also is extremely talented but nothing compared to this girl. Which means that we dont lack talent but cant support talent when we see one. It broke my heart to see her not win as she was miles ahead in performance. Her performance of 'Aami je tomar' in the final had left Amitabh Speachless and the audience (i was one of them) was stunned.
In our country Talent is abundent, why only Nihira & Anwesha but I feel that there have been genuine talents on all shows people like - Karunya, Amit Paul, Malini Awasthi, etc who are supremely talented but they dont go on to win because the others are able to garner more votes based on regionalism or emotional connect.
So the question is not 'why we lack talent' but you should ask yourself - 'Do we deserve Talent ?' and the answer is NO.
Because more often than not, talent does not win and those people who believe in talent get lost in the minority.
And to an extent the fault lies with us also, the people you are refering to - Anwesha & Nihira are real gems which are one in a million, you cant find them easily. Its like saying why cant we have another Sachin Tendulkar ??? Or why cant we have another Kishore or Lata or Rafi ?
These people are once in a decade happenings and so we should not look for them at every nook and corner.

Very well put Reema.
Also let me add that Anwesha sang 'Ami je tomar' in Hyderabad also and with so much ease that if one wasn't listening to the song, one would feel she's singing ' Chura liya' or something. And she got a standing ovation from all of us.😊

But I did feel sorry for her. Durga Puja is the best 5 days for any bengali child's life. And here she was away from home to earn fame & money. She might be enjoying it all now but then she's too young for all this. If her talent is nutured further instead, she could go mles instead of being just a short time celebrity.

An answer to that could also be that people are more aware of the 'reality' of the reality shows on National TV now and genuine artists do not want their talent to be mocked at the expence of any channels' TRP. If u see the regional SRGMPs - they are full of real talent putting the judges in a fix every second day!

So true. We fail to discover and encourage our own talents when we have plenty of them - never found by anyone. And the ones who can find and nourish them (like the TV channels) then go wild with stupid dramas and make a mockery of our pure talents! They are so carried away with marketing gimmicks in other nations than promoting the pure talents of our own. We dont lack any real talents and we dont have any scarcity either. Rather we have abundance, and do we have to sacrifice them for the sake of hospitality?!

Unfortunately in SRGMP, such great talents will normally be eliminated early. For the very same reason a lot of great classical prodigies will normally stay away rather then come aboard and get humiliated.

I think as far as singers are concerned we have abundant of them and the surfeit of music competitions nowadays on TV(incl in languages other than Hindi) has been significantly encouraging more youngsters to take up singing.

We can see most of the aspiring singers only look for their 5 mins of fame on the tube and forget that practice, hardwork dedication and learning from an expert Guru will make a whole lot of difference. Even legends like Kishore who didn't had any formal training achieved glory through sheer hardwork and striving for perfection. For Rafi saab sangeet was Sadhana and the commercial aspects were secondary.

Parents and schools could do a lot by encouraging children to learn shastriya sangeet which would go a long way in preserving our glorious tradition of classical music(nowadays it is the westerners who are discovering the fascinating world of Indian classical music).

We need talented and creative instumentalists, composers who don't overtly depend on software and western beats for producing music artificially and most importantly lyricists, poets who do not write such silly & stupid lines like dard-e-disco, dil dance maare, zara zara touch me kiss me etc etc

Anwesha was a class apart in chote ustaad
In fact, I guess most people feel she should have won- also by what i see on youtube Anwesha is ahead by hundreds of viwes more!
i supported Aishwarya's voice quality but as competiton progressed, it was evident taht Anwesha was a superior talent. But its true that I felt very bad when she didn't win. When you say 'win' I know it doesn't translate into better assignemnets, better work. But it does mean better visibility.
Anwesha has sung 'tha kar ke' in Golmaal returns with Pritam, who was one of the judges on chote sutaad. The same pritam didn't bother to sign the winner Aishwarya for any of the songs. that means he is aware that the channel played manipulative games to make Ash win,or he felt she didn't deserve to win.
Still Aishwarya is a good atlent. What about winners like Prashant Tmag, Sanddep acharya, Harshdeep? pure regionalism succeeded in making them 'winners'. Now the regional audience won't care a hoot for them, after making them win. These winners will end up depressed an doverweight like Sandeep, who was winner of indian idol 2 and whom I saw in an interview saying he is not getting offers. The girl Monali Thakur in the same show came 9'th and is now busy singing playback and in various films has lent her voice. In fact, she has beaten al 8 who got more votes before her!1
The truth is regional voting is bane for the winner. i have seen it in Punjab, north east audiences especially. Last year out of the 3 winners, 2 were undeserving(saregama had a good winner, but people were against him as he cmae midway in comp.) But these winners end up far more depressed than the deservcing ones, who get work despite being voted out early. So its a case of winning doe snot have any value now!!

Correct. This is what Kavithaji also said on the second rounds of SRGMP judging - to Jenice I believe. And we have been seeing that the pure talents get signed up faster and easily during the initial rounds itself, and the mentors also make sure that they give chances to those they believe have calibre and originality.
