Alka Yagnik Vs Shreya, who is better?

Now a days it is difficult to compare singers of same genre with nearly same voice quality due to far and few classical based songs but Shreya is all set to replace Alka. Other than Bollywood Shreya is a big hit in South Indian music and won Filmfare 2006 award for Munbe Wa.

Her last classic (ami je tomar was as much a demonstration of recording technique as her singin prowess, taan and sargam recorded separately and assembled/edited), but she has extensive training in classical.

Alka Yagnik is one of those who thinks Lata ji is swara personified and the best. She has enormous training under her mother and other gurus. She has demonstrated singing of various genre under several composers starting from LP, RDB to A R Rehman. Oldies like me will go for her.

So who is singer of your choice, please mention and give reason.

My vote goes to Shreya. I just don't like Alka Yagnik.

I like Shreya's voice quality better than Alkaji's. Alkaji's singing is rather sharp in my opinion especially her high notes and her voice sounds muffled at times. In my opinion Shreya's voice has more clarity and her slight falsetto/ angelic projection is more pleasing to the ears.

My vote goes with Shreya becoz she is a way ahead in classical singing than Alka. Alka has gud voice which suits to bollywood, but i think she struggles at higher notes as well as in semiclassical songs and her voice dosent suits to semiclassical compositions where as shreya is perfect for such type of songs. i believe tat shreya has the combined qualities of Alka Yagnik( Voice quality) and Kavita Krishnamutrhy(Classical base)... Also i think Sunidhi also sings better than Alka as sunidhi can sing any type of songs such as.. semiclassical, romantic melodies, high pitch songs, hiphop etc....

Between Alka & Shreya I would choose Shreya because Alka's voice becomes shrill in higher notes.

But I think Sunidhi is better than both Shreya and Alka.

Both are very good. But these two are not the best. Each singer can sing a certain song well.

Our SRGMP Nihira, Himani etc are also very good on certain songs. Mentors have said they are better than the original many times.

But jokes aside, There are too many fabulous singers and I love them all.

I always thought Alka is fine in all range, but this is clear that Shreya has an edge as far classical based songs are concerned and this puts her ahead in South Indian music, There was a point when a comparison was drawn between Nihira and Shreya but now in retrospect I can say Shreya is far ahead in her genre.

Kavita K has an unmatched classical base and no wonder she rules when it comes to classical, she is too good.

Somewhere Shreya's voice suits young heriones better than Alka.

This was also pointed that meend/gamak sound better in Shreya's voice.

I think for heroine playback it will be Alka Yagnik. For pure melody Shreya Ghoshal will sound better.

some how the current gen under rates Alka ji and this mostly has roots in not having listened to Alka enough. I think Alka ruled in play back yet every one gets replaced by some one.

Sunidhi is in a different genre and doesn't have the same classical expertise her strength lies in the voice quality.
