Making their way home on a rickshaw through hilly lonely streets of Benaras, the father-daughter duo are rightfully worried about the outcomes of the court proceedings. Just as they continue their discussions, a stylish silver car approaches them and begins tailing their comparatively slow rickshaw. Further unnerved, Tarachand coaxes the rickshaw to try and let the car pass, but it stubbornly follows along. A few unsuccessful attempts later, the rickshaw takes a detour to deserted by-lanes to rid themselves of the car. If only the passengers were to know that this would hold disastrous consequences for them.
The rickshaw is forced to a halt! The driver's path is blocked by the now stationary silver car flanked by its 4 ruffian occupants. From the other direction one hears the majestic entry of the antagonist (or should I say semi-protagonist) of the show!
A DESERTED PLACE
Emerging with his characterist tilt-of-the brow and following a few tweaks to his watch, Indu manages to scare the lone rickshaw driver away. All alone in a deserted place, the young heroine and her lame old man are unable to do much than try and fight back verbally. However, Indu is quick to grab the old man by his shirt and pass him on to his accomplices like hurtling away a sack of onions. Grabbing Sanchi by her arm, he stares at her for a few seconds.
[The uber-romantic in me derived a slightly devious pleasure watching Indu hold her single-handedly, while the beautiful damsel wriggled profusely to set herself free.]
Watching her frenzied state Indu utters 'If only you had a tinge of love and affection as part of this fear that you now have for me... this day would never have come...'
When he throws abuses about her devious ways, Sanchi explains 'Do you realize how difficult it must have been for me to watch my mother swallow sleeping pills for my sake...it is you who have reduced me to do such despicable acts of deceit.'
Thereafter; he turns a shade more violent, depicting flashes of the obsessive rage that he is so notorious for. As Sanchi desperately tries to flee, he grabs her by her hair, leaving the audience to cringe at the plight of the struggling girl.
Watching her turbulent form writhing within his clasp, Indu is back to the haunting memories of why he fell for her in the first place. He confesses 'These anger-filled eyes...quivering lips...the angst-driven persona...you are frightened to the core, but yet you will not relent... neither will you ask for forgiveness or for empathy - it is these traits that are to be admired and fallen for... I am not one to fall for a shy, a coy or a demure girl [hmmm, an insight into him that we've never seen before]' now her hands free, she looks at him as Indu continues vindictively 'I'll never forget the hurt you have given me...I've never insulted your family members, but now I shall not shy from doing so!'
Soon after, a miniscule band arrives and Indu indicates her to move on. However, the shocked Sanchi doesn't budge. A moment later, the strong brute casually flings her on his shoulders and carries her away.
WEDDING MANDAP
[If for none else, I'd like to see this wedding take place at least for the sake of the 4 silly friends. It's the 3rd time they have been desperately running around making sincere wedding arrangements for their 'bhai' lol]
Indu arrives with Sanchi still struggling on her shoulders [I must say, a very realistically shot struggle] and then props her down
Sanchi is shocked by the arranegements, while Indu silently indicates his plans to her by a few signs - the mandap, the havan, you, me, phere - now!
Kissing the original wedding lehenga, he looks at her with lustful gaze and reveals 'I had this made very affectionately for you, hoping we would get married that day...but now I hand it over to you with unimaginable hatred!!!'
Sanchi takes the wedding gown and flings it down, refusing his order [We have always seen AD act brilliantly, but this scene must be handed over to Pooja - she has done an amazing job!]
Gradually desecending into depths of rage, Indu retors 'No..no...no... no...why do you have a problem of uttering 'no' for everything' he pauses 'Anyway, today we have a cure for your problem too!'
On ordering his friends to fetch the cure, the poor Tarachand is dragged to the dais by the goons, leaving Sanchi utterly shocked. While Tarachand and Sanchi continue to try and fight off Indu's wishes, the lame man is pushed around and shoved, till a knife finally finds it's way to his neck.
Despite the father trying to dissuade his daughter, the loyal daughter in Sanchi finally caves in.
She screams out in vexation 'Fine...I will marry you'
Indu's expression suddenly changes to a myriad of happiness and pride and he lets go of Sanchi.
Falling to the floor, the defeated girl picks up her dress and then looks pleadingly at Indu
'Exactly two minutes' he warns her 'If not, our muhurat will end...and your father's death warrant arrives'
The speechless Sanchi goes off to get dressed and returns in a few minutes to join the now dressed Indu.
After praising her attire, Indu points towards the dais and mocks her 'Please take the first step towards your devastation'
Stripped of spirit, she sits at the havan and tearfully stares at her father, as their wedding rituals start.
The scene when she has flashbacks of the kind of boy that she imagined she would marry... flashbacks about the career that she wanted to pursue...the expressions on Sanchi's face when she looks at her dad...Tarachand's defeated reaction to his daughter's destruction are all heart-tugging!
