Pardon the title, I can not help my penchant for Classic literature. :-D

While watching last couple of episodes, I noticed how Ratan's behaviour is showing some interesting traits.

I will make clear that I do not think Ratan is a stupid or dumb male lead. (Not always at least). He is smart enough to understand when there was a real danger and managed to change his behaviour according to it during Raghu kidnapped him.

But there is a difference in sense (common sense) and sensibility.

His behaviour with rings was not intentionally hurtful or malicious but it was result of a different sensibility. I will not attribute it to his age.

Diya was 18 when she took up the responsibility which alienated her from everything that was dear to her.

I guess it is also nurture (as well as nature). He grew up in a different mind set than Diya, Yash or even Ayush.

(If you see how Ayush is also shown as a mature one from the beginning thanks to his Mom being alone and they being penniless and appreciating the help given to him by Maan Singh.)

Ratan does not realize his offer to help with Diya's wedding, even though is a sweet gesture, he needs to take care of not stepping on toes of her parents.

They have been nursing the wound of her cancelled wedding and his taking away every special moment from them is inconsiderate.

It was contrasted beautifully with Yash by writers. While he was eating the burnt roti she made and giving her confidence, Ratan is busy talking to her as Abhay.

I think the reason for showing these scenes is to highlight the difference in Diya and Ratan's sensibilities. They can be good friends in a matter of short time but it will take a long time for them to come to terms if they are married.

I agree with this one to some extent. All three grew up differently. Yash saw his mom hearing taunt and his father staying away, that forced him to grow up.
Ratan on the other hand when he was with his parents was completely pampered and kept away from the realities of the world. when the shock of their death came, he didn't have support but was kept away and grew up with other boys his age who were young themselves and could not have done anything to improve his maturity. he got a bit serious as you say when danger was near, now with that gone, he is finally trying to live his life and be that carefree kid who was pampered. it is because of that that he does not necessarily even realise when he is stepping on someone's toes. because he is someone who if he realised he was doing it, he would step back. diya makes it obvious so it is easy for him to understand. subtlety is not his thing to pick up. he is someone who is going to learn very slowly and through mistakes. mostly after he has pissed off diya some more times.

but yes, right now, they are trying to show the difference between them and to let us know that them falling in love is going to be a long long process. they have tried to keep on saying it even in words through both of them that they are chalk and cheese.

Agreed! Especially with your point that he is free of any danger for the first time can behave as he wants and walk free and that is the reason he seems a bit careless.

And yes, his heart is in right place and he is not doing things to hurt, he is just not focussed enough to finish one task (Diya's wedding) before starting rest of his life.

He is in a hurry and is trying to make up for too many things.

It would be really interesting to see ratan's character and its growth now, especially after this wedding thing. His and diya's mindsets are really different and now since their accidental marriage track is heading up, they are making it loud and clear that this is how they will remain and what kind of level of effort it would require to make them come on a same level.

Well said...
If by chance someone younger and from the royal family has to marry Diya... Yash would be more suitable...

Whenever I see Ratan with Diya, my sense says it's the baby brother or delinquent nephew, give him some space. Even when he acted better during the Raghu kidnapping, my sensibility was injured as he didn't have sense to at least inform Yash... after Raghu is Yash's (long thought dead) father ..
