I have mixed feelings about Abhay. While I perceive him as a third party in Dira's relationship, I can't help but feel sorry for him. He waited for Diya for 12 years and still loves her the same. He deserves a happy ending too for his wait and sacrifice as well. However, I'm not sure how a happy ending would be possible in his case without splitting Dira apart. The closest alternative I can think of is both Diya and Abhay realising that they are no longer compatible and they don't feel for each other anymore. They realise that due to the 12 year interval, both of them have grown apart.
Anyways, I hope the makers don't turn him purely into a dark antagonist. I hope he is portrayed as a grey character. He has his reasons, that are somewhat justified, for disliking Ratan and not wanting Dira together. That would bring about the dark shades in his character. However, his love for Diya is pure and he wants her happiness. That would highlight the light shades in his character. There should be a conflict between his dark and light shades, to create a compelling grey character.
However, I feel whether he's a grey or dark character depends on TRPs as well. If the TRPs don't increase, I guess that the makers may turn him into an all-out dark character for added drama. Anyways, hoping for the best and hope the makers don't create a stereotypical love triangle! 😊
