Chapter 5


Rohan thought about how things had turned out last night, he had gotten his job back plus he had a date with Isha. The thought of the idea itself made him nervous, they were best friends… was this a good idea?

Isha paced around the room with butterflies in her stomach. She had nothing good to wear, Rohan had seen everything on her before. On top of that, he couldn't even call Ruchika because of everything that happened with Ashish. She wasn't sure if now was a good time to tell Ruchika about Rohan. And Huzeifa would definitely be of no help when trying to figure out what to wear.

Rohan picked out a black shirt since he remembered Isha liking it. Oh man, this was going to be so awkward.

Isha finally settled on a black and silver dress, hoping it would not look too flash. She wasn't even sure where they were going, was she supposed to even dress up? Her mind was a wreck… Do I look okay? He is my best friend, what the hell am I doing? What if it's a mistake? But… It didn't feel like a mistake. Maybe, I really am a chicken… I should just shut up and try this… if it doesn't work out, we will still be friends, forever… right? Oh man, this was the worst idea ever! I should cancel! But I can't… oh god.

Rohan got into his car and drove to Isha's house trying to clear his mind. It was when he was under her building that ther nervousness got worse, Oh god, what am I doing here? I don't want to ruin our friendship. Man, bad idea, what the hell was I thinking!

Isha heard the doorbell and looked in the mirror one last time hoping that there was nothing stuck between her teeth. She opened the door and all the worries fled her mind, this was her best friend she was looking at. They knew how to have a good conversation.

Rohan was mesmerized by Isha for a second… he had seen her dress up but this time, she was dressed up for him. "You look… beautiful."

Isha smiled, it was a cheesy line but sweet nonetheless, "You look quite good yourself, I guess."

"A little stringent with your compliments?" Rohan said as he extended his hand forward to lead her out.

Isha knew of Rohan's charms from before, they had been friends forever, but it still made her blush. "Well, I have to be to keep up with you."

They headed to the car in silence, both thinking about what they were going to say next. Rohan was a total gentleman and opened the door for Isha. "After you."

Isha seated herself in the car, she could not for the life of her, wipe that stupid goofy grin off her face. "So, where exactly are we going?"

Rohan sat inside the car and shrugged, "You will just have to wait and see…"

Isha looked through the CD collection in Rohan's car, "Really, you have Backstreet Boys?!"

Rohan took the CDs away, "No judging. They are… my… they are Dhruv's!"

"Rohan, that lie only works if you have a younger sister, not an older brother!" Isha said as she grabbed the pack of CDs again. "You know what I have realized… you are such a softie inside."

Rohan gave Isha the look that had her cracking, "All right, can we not talk about me?"

"Aww embarrassed?" Isha said as she pinched Rohan's cheeks jokingly.

Rohan gave a rather serious face and started to drive quietly.

"Okay, okay! I am sorry," Isha said as she put the CD case down. "Happy, I put it down. Now, seriously where are we going for dinner?"

Rohan still drove quietly, he wasn't going to give in that quickly.

Isha sighed loudly on purpose, "So, this is a good start to a date."

Rohan turned and smiled, "All right, but never pull my cheeks again."

Isha nodded her head while trying to control her laughter, "Anything else I should know?"

Rohan turned slightly and the two of them shared a soft smile that made them both nervous again. They had been friends for so long that these flirtatious comments made them both awkward and excited at the same time. "Okay, so… how was your day?"

Isha thought about that question… that was a typical conversation starter on a date but it was weird to be asked that by Rohan, "The part of the day I didn't spend working with you? Oh wait… that's all I did all day."

"All right, I get the point. Well, not my fault that we spend too much time together. I tried to leave the company, but someone got drunk and acted like a drama queen." Rohan said jokingly but the seriousness on Isha's face had him wanting to take back his words. "I … I didn't mean it Isha."

Isha smiled, "I know… but I am still mad at you for leaving the company."

"Well, I wasn't going to stand there and watch you flirt with Ashish all day at work." Rohan said as he turned into the parking lot of the restaurant.

Isha was surprised, was the kiss not as much of a surprise for him as it was for her. "What do you mean?"

Rohan opened Isha's door as he thought about how to respond to that. "I… well why do you think I left, in all honesty?"

Isha shrugged, "You said you were unhappy…"

Rohan shrugged, "I was… with the fact that I was feeling… jealousy over you and Ashish… and I couldn't tell why…"

Isha felt her heart beat faster, she had never expected to be so happy about a simple comment like that before. She bit her lips to keep from smiling too much and instead of looking at him in the eyes, she bowed her head slightly and headed towards the restaurant.

As soon as Isha entered the restaurant, it was the last thing she had expected. This place was loud… well loud was an understatement. "Rohan… do you bring people HERE for a first date?"

Rohan shrugged, "Come, trust me it's fun."

A few minutes later, Isha found herself shouting over 20 other people for her order. Everything was a chaos. Finally they got around to ordering what they wanted and Rohan took Isha upstairs and off the patio to a sight that she knew she would not forget for a long long time.

"Rohan… this is… gorgeous." Isha said as she walked further up in the patio, "Where and how did you find this place?"

Rohan smiled as he followed Isha, he was hoping she would like it, "I was incredibly hungry and this was the only place around a couple of weeks ago. As soon as I got in, I wanted to leave cause of all the noise but I was so hungry. I quickly ordered and tried to look for a quiet place to eat and found this."

Isha was mesmerized by the view. It was a small lake which a water fountain on one side and birds dancing in the air making, what looked like patterns. The sun was setting right in front of them and the stars were starting to be visible, and surprisingly pollution was not blocking the brightness of the moon that had started to become visible. "This is… perfect."

Rohan grabbed them two chairs and they settled in a quieter area, "See, you can trust my choice."

Isha raised an eyebrow, "I figured that out when you asked me out on a date."

"Arrogant much?" Rohan said as he dropped the jalapenos on Isha's pizza. It was a habit, he didn't even realize he was doing it.

Isha looked at the jalapenos and smiled, "Rohan, this is a first date… you have to be at least a bit more formal then that!"

Rohan thought about if for a second and dropped another jalapeno on her pizza, "And suffer with jalapenos, no thanks!"

Isha laughed and it was her laughter that made Rohan just pause for a second and just look at her. It was weird… how one day you are looking at your best friend and the next you are looking at someone you like as more than just a friend. "Isha, you look beautiful."

"You already said that," Isha said as she tried to control the redness on her face, sometimes she hated having such light skin.

Rohan tilted his head, "Well sorry for the lack of better vocabulary… looking at you makes it hard."

That one had both of them laughing, "Rohan, that was pathetic! That was incredibly cheesy!"

Rohan laughed, "Well, I was trying to do the cheesy first date things since apparently putting my jalapenos on your plate was rude!"

Isha leaned over and took the last jalapeno off of Rohan's plate herself, "It wasn't."

The two of them ate in silence for a few minutes, just enjoying the view and the birds chirping. Nothing about this date was awkward, they were worrying for no reason.

Rohan looked over and thought for a second, "You know what Isha? The fact that we can sit here, not talk and yet still convey a message to each other… it already makes us an old couple."

Isha thought about it for a second, "Oh man, we can't be the type of people who complete each other's sentences already!"

Rohan shrugged, "Well we are! Looking at your face, I can tell half the time what you are thinking!"

Isha thought about it for a second, "All right, well on our next date, we will have to do something that is out of character for both of us. Something neither one of us would do."

Rohan looked straight into Isha's eyes "Next date huh…"

Isha looked down, slightly flustered, "I mean… I mean if… like if…"

"… if there is a second date. There is." Rohan said as he grabbed Isha's hands.

Isha smiled as she held on to Rohan's hands and the two of them finished their dinner. Their ocnversations continued on normally and Rohan dropped Isha off to her door. He didn't make a move or try to kiss her which Isha appreciated a lot. As he was leaving, Isha stopped him and planted a soft, quick kiss on his cheeks. "Thanks Rohan, I had fun."

Rohan smiled as he walked backwards towards his car, "Me too… Me too."
