First of all, I want to thank you guys for the great comments I have got for the Prologue!! 🤗And as promised, I am posing Chapter 1 below... So keeping my fingers crossed, here goes... *phew*

She was awake. "Am I in heaven?" She asked herself. But she was feeling pain. An intolerable pain in her chest, which made her question herself, "Have I not died then...? But how can one survive two strips of sleeping pills?" She had similar questions like this going around in her head, but she couldn't concentrate more as the sudden pang of pain hit her again. She shut her eyes tightly.

She heard a distant voice, "Doctor, I think she is awake. See? Her eyeballs are moving." "Yes, call me when she is fully awake. I will check her then" the other voice said and she heard retreating footsteps.

Slowly she opened her eyes as she felt the pain easing out. Yes, she was alive. She hadn't died. Ananya Kashyap, Editor In Chief, KKN Channel had survived a heavy dose of sleeping pills. She was a headline in herself! She looked around and saw a nurse standing beside her. She seemed sweet and gently asked her, "Are you alright now?... Come; let me help you sit up."

In the next two hours, Ananya told the friendly nurse about herself; who she was, what she did, her family, friends and lastly, what had happened that had forced her to take such a drastic step. "Uh... could you tell me where exactly I am?" Ananya mumbled, feeling very tired as she had talked for so long. "You are in the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai... you have been here for the past week and a half. I doubt you will remember anything, because you have been under heavy medication to bring you out of danger. They found your passport in your room in Amsterdam the next morning and sent you here as soon as they could. After all, who doesn't know you ma'am?" the nurse said, smiling. Ananya smiled back and closed her eyes again as she felt uneasiness in her chest yet again.

Soon, a good looking doctor in his mid-thirties came and checked on her before calling the nurse outside the room. "She is alright, but it has damaged her heart to a great extent. There are chances she lives, and there are chances she doesn't. She has to be kept under observation for at least 3 months before I can announce her stability. Tell me, Richa, what has happened to her? I mean, I know her... she is the most powerful woman in India at the moment. Even the government is scared of her with the way she works. I seriously admire her. She is beautiful, not as a woman only, but as a person too and is such a lively person! Did she say something to you?" Richa looked at the doctor with a questioning glance when he said, "Miss Ananya had come to our hospital about a year ago when she was doing a HEALTH AND HYGIENE week in her channel and she had interviewed me. That's how I know her, a teeny weeny bit more than everyone does because I have admired this lady's work since the first day I saw her on TV... I said a little more than I should have, right Richa?" he smiled sheepishly as he had just revealed a little secret of his life to a nurse in his hospital.

The nurse gave a smile, loving the fact that she worked in a hospital where her seniors would treat her like friends and the head doctor would be too good to be real. She had found a friend in every doctor, assistant and worker of the hospital and this doctor was no less. She repeated Ananya's story to the doctor. "How can such a strong lady do such a cowardly act...?" was all the doctor could utter with his eyebrows creased before he turned around to leave. "um... Dr. Kabir... Have a nice day! And don't worry, your secret is safe with me!" Kabir turned to the nurse and gave a genuine smile. But his mind was disturbed. He hadn't expected the woman he respected the most would do such a thing!

Well, he was glad he was in charge of this case; he looked forward to spending a lot of time with Ananya... professionally. "And personally, too!" His mind teased him. He just gave a playful smack on his head and walked towards his cabin with a silly grin. He had loved Ananya since the very day he laid his eyes upon her. Not the lusty love, but the pure one. Infatuation, maybe, but Kabir had always named it respect and admiration for her'. Little did he know, what life held in store for him?

Richa went in and sat down beside Ananya. She looked at Ananya with a smile lined with sympathy on her lips. Richa just wished no one in the world should go through what this fragile looking girl had gone through. A betrayal. A heartbreak. A suicide attempt. What more could be done? Yes, she had survived, and was being taken care of by the best doctor (cum admirer) in town, but she doubted there was anything which would heal the deep wounds that life had given her. Ananya didn't wake up that night, thanks to the sedatives, but Richa had felt a sisterly bond develop between them in the mere two hours that they had talked, and hence, had stayed beside Ananya the whole night.
