Green Corridor helps save woman's life as harvested heart travels 32 km in 28 min
Wed Sep 16, 2015 | 19:18 IST#Gurgaon #Haryana A harvested heart was taken from Gurgaon to Delhi in 27.56 minutes to save a 23-year-old woman's life thanks to the Green Corridor.
According to ETV report, the heart belonged to a 59-year-old man from Jhajjar who died of brain hemorrhage. After her death, his family decide to donate his organs.
The biggest challenge before them was get the heart to the patient in time and the heart transplant has to be done within 5 hours of donor's death.
The heart had to be taken from Fortis Hospital to Escort hospital in Delhi and thanks to the Green Corridor the nearly impossible task of travelling 32kms was completed in 27.56 minutes.
Urology and kidney transplant director at Fortis Hospital Dr Sanjay Gagoi said that the different organ transplants have different time limitations. He said while the heart has to be transplant within 4 hours, a kidney has to be transplanted within 24 hours once taken out of donors body.
