Part 10
Kabir didn't know how to react. He had always wanted to reconcile with Ananya. But marriage was sacred to him and Ananaya's decision to keep Pia away had eroded the very foundation of that relationship.
Kabir: I don't know if I can do this. Give our relationship another chance?
Ananya: Let's take one step at a time. Let's focus on Pia first. She deserves the love and time of both her parents.
Kabir: I wish you had understood that 4.5 years ago.
Ananya: You are right. But I at least want to start making amends.
Tomorrow is Sunday. I'll drop Pia at your place.
Kabir: That sounds good. Thanks.
Next morning Pia got up at 6 am and insisted that Ananya dress her up. Ananya tried to put her to sleep again. But she was adamant. At 7 am ANANYA and Pia rang the bell to Kabir's house.
Pia jumped into Kabir's arms the moment he opened the door.
Ananya (sheepishly): She couldn't wait any longer. She takes after you. Loves getting up early.
Pia: And Mumma hatesh getting up eally! She wash shleeping in the cal.
Kabir chuckled while Ananya looked embarrassed.
Kabir: Come inshide. Baby, Papa has made your favorite Poha.
Pia ran inside.
Ananya: What a child she is?! Loves eating healthy things.
Kabir: And you still love eating junk food? Come inside. I'll make coffee for you. With lots of milk and lots of sugar.
Kabir fed Pia with his own hands. Ananya smiled indulgently and suddenly felt a pang of guilt.
Pia: Papa, we'll firsht go to the palk, then we'll come back and do cololing. Then Papa will lead to Pia. Then we'll take a nap and then we'll fo swimming in the evening.
Kabir: Perfect my darling.
Ananya: Sounds amazing. I'll make a move now.
Pia: Whele is mummy going? You have to come with us.
Ananya: Baby. Mumma has some work.
Pia: No. No! Pia wants both Mumma and Papa.
Kabir couldn't see Pia close to tears.
Kabir: Ananya, stay please. It would really mean a lot to Pia.
It was the "beshtesht" day of Pia's life. She had both her father and her mother dancing to her tunes, pampering her.
In the afternoon Pia was taking a nap. Kabir and Ananya were sitting in the drawing room.
Ananya: She is really your spitting image. Planned, organized and disciplined.
Do you remember what a hard time we used to have putting Kunnu to sleep?
Kabir: Do I not?! I used to follow him as he ran around the whole house hiding everywhere.
Ananya: And then he'd finally get exhausted and fall asleep.
Kabir: He used to cling to you while sleeping.
Ananya: Remember he used to keep falling down. You used to worry so much for him. He'd just turn to you and say.
"Pa, why should I be scared. I know you'll always save me like Superman"
Ananya's eyes welled with tears. Kabir's voice choked as he said.
Kabir: But I failed him. Couldn't protect him...
They heard a tiny voice.
Pia: Plotect who?
Ananya: No one baby. Let's get ready. Time to go for swimming.
The three of them had a lovely time in the pool. It was finally time for ANanya and Pia to leave.
Pia: No.. Papa, come with ush.
Kabir: Angel, we'll meet tomorrow in the park.
Pia: No...
Ananya: Pia darling papa will also come home for breakfast.
It began with breakfasts. Soon Kabir was having both breakfast and dinner at their house. While Pia loved having her parents around, she used to become inconsolable whenever either of them suggested leaving.
After a particularly bad incident where pia almost cried herself sick, Anita intervened.
Anita: Where is this going? She cries when Kabir leaves from here. She cries when ANanya drops her off and leaves from Kabir's house.
Ananya: Ma what altenate do we have?
Anita: Your really want me to answer that? Hasn't the court asked you to work on your marriage? How are you doing that without living in the same house?
Kabir: Ma, that's not an option.
Anita: So you'd rather have Pia cry herself sick everyday. You are both mature adults. I'll let you two decide.
Kabir and Ananya spoke for a while. They both could't bear to see their darling in tears on a daily basis. Finally Kabir spoke.
Kabir: We have to do this. She doesn't deserve this pain because of our mistakes.
Ananya: I agree. But don't you think her life will get disrupted if we move to your house.
Kabir: You won't move. She is comfortable in this house. Let's not spoil things for her. You have a guest room. I'll move in here. At least for the remaining four months. We'll see how it goes.
