Ananya and Kabir had been married for 3 years and were expecting their first baby. Ananya was in the eighth month of her pregnancy. Much against her will she had begun her maternity leave a week back. Given her restless nature she was finding it hard to sit at home. Her restlessness was aggravated by the fact that Kabir was working even longer hours to ensure that he could get a couple of months off after the birth of the baby.
Ananya: Kabir I can't have a single drop more of this milk. It tastes awful! 😡
Kabir: Come on Ananya. Just a little bit more. Good! Now go to sleep.
Ananya: Not a chance Kabir! I am going to stay awake and be the first one to wish you at midnight.
Kabir: Absolutely not! The doctor's asked you to sleep proper hours. You can wish me tomorrow morning. I am going to sit here and work and I don't want any more craziness from you. You'll lie down and sleep.
Ananya: Always the strict editor-in-chief.
Kabir: Did you say anything Ms. Kashyap?
Ananya: You know I have been Mrs. Sharma for over three years now 😉
Kabir: For me you'll always be Ms. Kashyap. Ananya you may not be tired, but my baby girl definitely is! Please go to sleep.
Ananya: You are dead sure that we are going to have a daughter, aren't you? Even before coming into this world, she has you dancing to her tunes.
OK fine I'll go to sleep. But i'll make you pay for all this. Hitler!
Kabir chuckled. Half an hour later he was pleased to see that Ananya was fast asleep. He continued with his work.
"Happy birthday Mr Sharma"
Sharp at midnight Ananya came and whispered these words in his ears.
Kabir: Thank you darling. But you really are incorrigible Ananya.
Ananya proceeded to give him a peck on his cheek and then settled comfortably on his lap.
Ananya: And you really are adorable Kabir. You wait and see. I'll make this birthday perfect for you.
Kabir: My life is already perfect Ananya!
He kissed her lightly on her lips. And then slowly picked her up and took her to the bed.
Kabir: By the way Ananya, you have really put on a lot of weight. Must be all the ice creams and chocolates you keep hogging on 😆
Ananya: Kabir you are so mean!
Kabir; Sorry!😳 Now lthat you have fulfilled your desire can you please sleep.
Ananya: Only if you remain here.
Kabir smiled. Ananya snuggled up to him and fell asleep in his arms.
Next morning
(After their wedding Kabir had insisted that Ananya's mother move in with them)
AM: Happy Birthday Kabir!
Kabir touched her feet and hugged her!
Kabir: Thank you Ma! Ma, let Ananya sleep in. She stayed up till midnight and must be tired.
AM: SHe is going to become a mother sooon and she still behaves like she is a kid herslef.
Both of them chucked!
Kabir went to office and was wished warmly by everyone. He received a call from Ananya who was furious with him for not waking her up. He calmed her down and got down to doing work.
Around noon Kabir was in a meeting with Khalid and Malvika. Suddenly Ronnie stormed into the room. Rajveer became tense.
Ronnie:Ananya's mother called.
Without another word he ran to the phone outside.
Kabir: Ma, what happened?
AM: Kabir, Ananya was planning a party for you.I went out for 5 minutes to get something from the shop downstairs. I came back to find Ananya on the floor. She tripped. We are on the way to..
Kabir: Which hospital? Sanjeevani? I am on my way.
Kabir turned to Khalid and Malvika who gestured him to go quickly.
At the hospital
AM: It's all my fault beta. I shouldn't have..
Kabir: No Ma, it isn't. It was just an accident.
Dr Shah: Good that you are hear Kabir. We need to deliver the baby through a C-Section. I need you to sign these papers taking responsibility of the risks
Kabir: What risks..
Dr Shah (softly): Kabir the baby is in distress and Ananya's also lost a fair amount of blood. There is a small risk that one or both of them may not survive the surgery.
Kabir (disoriented): That's not possible. She's had a completely smooth pregnancy and just last week..
Dr: Kabir, she had a nasty fall. Please don't worry. We'll do our best.
Kabir was in a daze. He signed the papers and sat outside the OT.
The surgery went on for a couple of hours. And then he heard the sweetest sound in the world. A baby crying. His baby crying.
The nurse came out with his precious bundle wrapped in a pink cloth.
Nurse: Congratulations you are the father of a beautiful baby girl.
Kabir had attended many parenting classes. But he felt nervous about holding this delicate baby in his hands. He held her gingerly in his hands. The moment the baby came into his arms she stopped crying and stared at him with her big black eyes.
Kabir's eyes brimmed with tears and he embraced his daughter in a tender yet protective hug.
Ananya was likely to regain consciousness in a couple of hours. Kabir insisted on cradling his daughter in his arms. Finally when Ananya regained conscoiusness he carried their daughter to her. He slowly placed the baby in Ananya's arms and smiled as he saw Ananya cry tears of joy looking at their daughter. Suddenly he remembered the reason behind Ananya's fall and began to walk away.
Ananya: Baby, your papa is very angry with me. He won't even look at me.
Kabir: Ananya do you have any idea how much your carelessness could have cost us today. I can never forget those moments when you were in surgery..
Ananya: Do I not Kabir? From the moment I fell I was just praying to God to take care of evrything this time and that I'd never be so careless again.
But let's not spoil this special moment over my stupidity. Let's celebrate the arrival of our darling.
Kabir: You know I cant say no to you.
He came and hugged Ananya and the baby. As a reflex the baby held onto his finger.
Ananya: Have a look here! She's already a father's girl 😳
Kabir: Why wouldn't she be? She knows her father loves her the most in the world.
Ananya: And she shares her birtday with you too!
Kabir: Wow! I had forgotten about that. This is the most special birthday in my life. And thank you for giving me the most precious gift in the world.
Saying this he hugged Ananya more closely and kissed he on the forehead.
Ananya: Can you finally "break the news" of the name you have come up for her? you have been guarding it like a national secret!
Kabir: She symbolizes the best of both of us and hence her name will also have the best of both of us.

Ananya: Welcome to the world Kaya!
And as if to respond Kaya let out a loud cry.
