Sorry folks! the update is delayed all courtesy Mr Kabir Sharma's charms yesterday night. (Dont get any naughty thoughts...I am in another country!) So got up today with a horrible hangover called Kabiromania which a mug of black coffee is just able to contain.

Here is a teaser till I get my bearings back.

Ananya knows that Kabir Sharma's wife's name is Shreya. So who is this Manju? Her attention is drawn to a famous case of bigamy...and cheating!

"Ananya! Where are you?"

Sunny's voice reverberated in the stuffy room. This room, designated to store and catalogue records, did so along with a lot of unwanted junk that had no other destination. It was impossible to guess the size; it was filled quite thoroughly with shelves containing dusty cartons. Its windows were draped with equally heavy drapes that housed a complete ecosystem of fungus, reptiles, arthropods and rats. In short, this was not a place for a person with a fickle mind or a delicate bronchial system.

"What is it, Sunny?" Ananya's answer was slightly muffled courtesy the mask she wore while working in this room. She had been perusing a file containing some old file clipping related to NMM as per the orders of Kabir Sharma.

"Ananya! Come out as soon as possible!" Sunny dared not enter the room. And moreover, the haphazardly arranged shelves made it impossible to pinpoint a person's location through acoustics alone.

He didnt have to wait for long. A slight cough and a disturbance in the dusty environment indicated her arrival.

"What is it, Sunny? The mask, fully covered with dust was promptly binned with a flick of wrist. "Why are you so worked up? Some new lead?"

"Oye Mate...the mother of all leads is here! Pakka Breaking news!"

"What? Mother of ...Who? Why don't you come out clear?" Irritation creeped in.

"Kabir Sir' wife is here!"

Ananya felt a pang of disappointment. But only for a moment. Then she reminded herself.

"You mean his ex-wife?"

"His ex?" Sunny was taken aback for a moment. "But the way she is behaving right now, it doesn't look like that! You know, so demanding, so possessive about Kabir Sir...she ticked off Malvika with the flick of a finger!"

"Ticking off Malvika? Are you serious?" Now this was outrageous. Ananya thought furiously as she reached her desk with Sunny trailing behind.

Ronnie, who had been listening to this, quipped from his perch.

"Yes. And you know what...her name is Manju. She said she had gone to her maika when Kabir sir underwent some plastic surgery, changed his face and disappeared!"

Ananya's jaw dropped.

"Manju!" Now that was odd. According to the questionnaire, his ex-wife's name was Shreya. So who was this woman? She clutched the arm of her best friend.

"But Ronnie, his ex-wife's name is Shreya!"

Now it was Ronnie's turn to look flabbergasted.

"Now I don't know that!"

"But how...?"

It didnt take Ananya too long to figure out that. The answers shared by Kabir were known only to her. And she had not shared the personal details obviously with an intention to avoid office gossip. Ronnie was obviously not interested.

"But then what this woman is saying...Doesnt make sense. And to think that he has undergone plastic surgery to escape her? So...does it mean..."

He turned slowly to Ananya.

"Ananya, remember your first case? The minister's clandestine wedding...the case of Bigamy?"

"What does that..." The words blurted out through a reflex before realization dawned and the rest of the sentence dispensed with itself.

She drained a glass of water and recruited all the determination that she ever possessed. She was an investigative journalist foremost if nothing else. Something was rotten in the state of Denmark and she had to find out! But where was this woman? And who was she?

The object of Ananya's thoughts was seated on the sofa in the posh cabin of the editor-in chief. Wow...the cabin was fabulous, in complete contradiction to their derelict house. So her husband had landed a plum job, eh? And there she was searching for him...

There was a soft knock on the door and she turned around.

"Hello...Mrs Sharma?"

She brightened perceptively. The incumbent was a clean shaven, handsome man with a rugged expression and an easy smile. Quite a contrast to her husband's ever scowling expression that would be reserved exclusively for her.

"My name is Manav Gupta, I am a senior journalist here. How may I help you?"

"Oh you are a journalist? One of those people who hold a mike in their hands and interview people? One who brings the agonies of the oppressed people to the fore? And ensures that they get justice?"

"Yes Ma'm.." Manav nodded, consumed by his modesty.

"Ohh then please help me out! I am Manju Sharma. And I came in search of my husband here!"

"Your husband?" Manav could wear an innocent expression as and when needed. Maybe a result of reading news bulletins on camera?

"Yes...actually, my husband and I had a fight and I went off to my maika. When I came back, I discovered that he has undergone plastic surgery and also changed his name...I have no clue what he looks like. Only thing is, he cannot change his signature, which he signs as K Sharma. And I heard that one K Sharma is the Editor-In Chief here, so..."

"Ohh I see..." Manav's thought process was spinning with a supersonic speed, his professional antennae at full alert. He could almost read the next breaking news.

The case of a missing husband:

Husband changes face and name to escape his marriage.

Is this the same man? Divorced earlier, then married to Manju and now wants to escape her...flirting with half a dozen ladies around him... Is he cheating on his wife?

"Oye...hello?"

Manav came back to the present. He had a task to do.

"But why would your husband do that?"

"Just to escape me. You know, ever since we got married, he has been acting strange. He snaps at me for no reason. Doesnt care even if there are others around..."

"Now that's nasty...Just not fair!"

Manju sniffled at that. Manav rubbed his hands in glee. His breaking news was confirmed!

Malvika in the meanwhile had reached the soundproof teleconference room wherein Kabir and Khalid were having a debate of sorts.

"You and your saucy comment on NMM...it is pure trouble! I just got a call from our sponsors and they have threatened to back off unless you apologize unconditionally!"

"Leave that to me. I know what I am doing and why!" Kabir was a picture of confidence as he leaned back on the conference chair and crossed his long legs.

Khalid loosened his collar and notched up the Air-conditioning by several degrees. He paced around the room fistfully and plopped on his chair.

"See, I don't want any trouble with the NMM, OK?"

"Oh come on, Khalid...that's the problem with you. A woman just has to release her tear-power and you believe that its judgement day! The NMM is just another place where the other half refuses to see reason..." a knock on the door punctuated the flow. "... Yes, Malvika?

"Kabir, a woman is waiting for you!"

Kabir checked the time and smacked his palm to the head. "Of course! As expected. Ok, Khalid...see you soon. And don't worry!"

Saying don't worry to Khalid at that time was like selling an insurance cover to a death row convict to be executed at dawn. He shook his head and buried his face in his hands.

Meanwhile Malvika tried to unsuccessfully explain the situation to Kabir.

"Kabir, the woman claims to be..."

"I know! One of the representatives of the repressed!" Kabir was halfway out of the room and Malvika shook her head in pure exasperation.

"This man is simply impossible! Why can't he hear me out? I was just trying to save him some trouble!"

"Trouble and Kabir are two sides of the same coin!"

Khalid managed a feeble reply. Nothing ever seemed to rattle Kabir! And for once Malvika was in complete agreement with him.
